2. Safety Instructions
Please read and understand all safety instructions before operating the device. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or serious injury.
- Ensure the power supply is connected to a grounded outlet.
- Do not operate the device in wet or damp conditions.
- Do not open the casing; there are no user-serviceable parts inside. Refer servicing to qualified personnel.
- Always disconnect the power cord before performing any maintenance or moving the unit.
- Ensure proper ventilation around the unit to prevent overheating.
- Do not exceed the maximum voltage and current ratings of the device or the connected load.
3. Setup
Follow these steps to set up your VOLTCRAFT VLP-1405 USB Laboratory Power Supply:
- Unpacking: Carefully remove the power supply from its packaging. Inspect the unit for any signs of damage during transit. Retain the packaging for future transport or storage.
- Placement: Place the unit on a stable, level surface with adequate ventilation. Ensure there is sufficient space around the unit for air circulation, especially at the rear where the cooling fins are located.
- Power Connection: Connect the supplied power cord to the AC inlet on the rear panel of the power supply and then to a suitable grounded mains outlet (230V AC, 50Hz).
- Initial Power On: Before connecting any load, switch on the power supply using the main power switch on the front panel. The digital displays should illuminate.

4. Operating Instructions
This section details the operation of the VOLTCRAFT VLP-1405 USB, including its various outputs and controls.
4.1. Front Panel Controls and Indicators
- Power Switch: Main ON/OFF switch for the unit.
- Digital Displays: Two large LED displays show the current output voltage (V) and current (A).
- VOLT Knob: Adjusts the output voltage for Output A.
- AMPERE Knob: Adjusts the output current limit for Output A.
- C-LIMIT Indicator: Illuminates when the current limit is reached.
- OVP ADJ Knob: Adjusts the Over Voltage Protection threshold.
- OVER VOLTAGE Indicator: Illuminates when OVP is active.
- Output A Terminals: Red (positive), Black (negative), Yellow (ground) terminals for the main adjustable output.
- Output B-USB Section: Dedicated section for USB outputs with mode selection and adjustment.

4.2. Using Output A (0-40V, 0.01-5A)
- Ensure the power supply is turned off before connecting any load.
- Connect your load to the Output A terminals: positive to red, negative to black. The yellow terminal is for ground connection if required.
- Turn on the power supply.
- Adjust the VOLT knob to set the desired output voltage. The voltage will be displayed on the left digital meter.
- Adjust the AMPERE knob to set the desired current limit. The current will be displayed on the right digital meter. It is recommended to set the current limit slightly above the expected operating current of your load to prevent accidental overcurrent.
- The OVP ADJ knob allows you to set an overvoltage protection threshold. If the output voltage exceeds this threshold, the power supply will shut down to protect the connected device.

4.3. Using Output B-USB
The Output B-USB section provides two USB ports (USB-B1 and USB-B2) for testing and powering USB devices. It also includes a special function for stressing USB devices.
- USB-B1: Standard USB output (e.g., 5V, 1A).
- USB-B2: Higher current USB output (e.g., 5V, 2.4A).
- MODE Switch: Selects between different operating modes for the USB outputs, including normal operation and stress test modes. Refer to the markings on the panel for specific voltage/current ranges for each mode (e.g., 4.0-4.7V, 4.0-5.1V).
- V ADJ Knob: Allows fine adjustment of the voltage for the selected USB output mode.
- SHOW VALUE Button: Displays the current voltage/current of the USB output on the main digital meters.
To perform a USB stress test, connect the USB device to the appropriate USB port (USB-B1 or USB-B2), select the desired stress mode using the MODE switch, and observe the device's behavior under varying voltage conditions using the V ADJ knob.
5. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your power supply.
- Cleaning: Disconnect the power supply from the mains before cleaning. Use a soft, dry cloth to wipe the exterior. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Ventilation: Periodically check that the ventilation slots on the top, sides, and rear of the unit are free from dust and obstructions. Use compressed air to clear any dust buildup.
- Fuse Replacement: If the unit does not power on, check the fuse located on the rear panel next to the AC inlet. Disconnect the power cord, unscrew the fuse holder, and replace the fuse with one of the same type and rating (T 3.15A / 250V).
6. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Unit does not power on. | No mains power; Blown fuse; Power switch off. | Check power outlet and cord; Replace fuse (see Maintenance); Ensure power switch is ON. |
| No output voltage/current. | Output terminals not connected; Voltage/current knobs set to zero; OVP triggered. | Connect load correctly; Adjust VOLT/AMPERE knobs; Check OVP setting and reset if necessary. |
| C-LIMIT indicator is on. | Output current has reached the set limit. | Increase AMPERE setting or reduce load resistance. |
| OVER VOLTAGE indicator is on. | Output voltage exceeded OVP threshold. | Reduce output voltage or increase OVP ADJ setting. Cycle power to reset. |
