Introduction

The Klark Teknik PRO SPLITTER 2 DS 20 is a passive 1-input/2-output signal splitter designed for professional audio applications. It allows a single audio signal to be split into two separate outputs, making it ideal for sending a signal to a front-of-house mixer and a monitor mixer simultaneously, or for other signal distribution needs. Featuring a custom-built Midas transformer, the DS 20 ensures high signal integrity and extended dynamic range without requiring external power.

Setup

The DS 20 is a passive device, meaning it does not require any external power. Setup involves connecting your audio source to the input and your desired destinations to the outputs.

Connecting Your Device

  1. Input Connection: Connect your audio source (e.g., microphone, instrument, mixer output) to the INPUT XLR connector on the front panel of the DS 20.
  2. Thru Connection (Optional): If you need a direct, unprocessed copy of the input signal for a local monitor or another device, connect an XLR cable from the THRU XLR connector on the front panel to your desired destination.
  3. Output Connections: Connect XLR cables from the OUTPUT A and OUTPUT B XLR connectors on the rear panel to your receiving devices (e.g., mixing consoles, audio interfaces, recording devices).
  4. Ground Lift Switches: For each output (A and B), there is a LIFT switch. In situations where you encounter hum or buzzing noise, try engaging the ground lift switch for the affected output. This disconnects the ground connection, which can break ground loops. Start with the switch in the "EARTH" (grounded) position and only lift if noise is present.

Operating Instructions

The Klark Teknik PRO SPLITTER 2 DS 20 operates passively and requires no user controls beyond the ground lift switches. Once connected, it functions as a transparent signal splitter.

Maintenance

The Klark Teknik PRO SPLITTER 2 DS 20 is designed for durability and requires minimal maintenance.

Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No audio output from one or both channels.
  • Cable not connected properly.
  • Faulty XLR cable.
  • Source device not sending signal.
  • Receiving device input issue.
  • Ensure all XLR cables are securely connected to the correct inputs/outputs.
  • Test cables with another device or replace them.
  • Verify the audio source is active and sending a signal.
  • Check the input settings and levels on the receiving device.
Humming or buzzing noise in the audio.
  • Ground loop interference.
  • Faulty cable shielding.
  • Engage the LIFT switch for the affected output(s) on the rear panel.
  • Try different XLR cables, ensuring they are balanced and properly shielded.
Weak or distorted signal.
  • Input signal too low or too high.
  • Faulty cable.
  • Ensure the input signal level is appropriate for line-level equipment. While the DS 20 has high headroom, extreme levels can still cause issues.
  • Test or replace cables.
