Familiarize yourself with the components of the docking station:

Figure 1: Front View of the Docking Station. This image displays the front panel of the Jaycar USB 3.0 Dual SATA HDD Docking Station, showing the two drive bays at the top, and the control panel below. The control panel includes indicators for HDD 1 (Source) and HDD 2 (Target), cloning progress LEDs (100%, 75%, 50%, 25%), a 'CLONE' button, and a 'POWER' indicator with a power button.
- HDD 1 (Source) Slot: Upper slot for inserting the source hard drive during cloning, or a primary drive for data access.
- HDD 2 (Target) Slot: Lower slot for inserting the target hard drive during cloning, or a secondary drive for data access.
- HDD 1 (Source) Indicator: LED illuminates when HDD 1 is active.
- HDD 2 (Target) Indicator: LED illuminates when HDD 2 is active.
- Cloning Progress LEDs (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%): Indicate the progress of the offline cloning process.
- CLONE Button: Initiates the offline cloning process.
- POWER Button: Turns the docking station on or off.
- POWER Indicator: LED illuminates when the docking station is powered on.
- USB 3.0 Port (Rear): Connects the docking station to your computer via the supplied USB 3.0 cable.
- DC Power Input (Rear): Connects to the supplied power adapter.
5. Setup
- Connect Power: Connect the power adapter to the DC Power Input port on the rear of the docking station, then plug the adapter into a power outlet.
- Connect to Computer (Optional for Data Transfer): If using for data transfer, connect the USB 3.0 cable from the docking station's USB 3.0 port to an available USB port on your computer.
- Insert Hard Drives: Gently slide your 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch SATA HDD/SSD into the desired drive slot(s) until it is firmly seated. Ensure the SATA connector aligns correctly.
- Power On: Press the POWER button on the front of the docking station. The POWER indicator LED will illuminate.
- Drive Recognition: If connected to a computer, the operating system should automatically detect the drives. New drives may require initialization and formatting through Disk Management (Windows) or Disk Utility (macOS) before use.
6. Operating Instructions
6.1. Data Transfer Mode
With the docking station connected to your computer via USB, inserted drives will appear as external storage devices. You can drag and drop files, perform backups, or access data as you would with any other external drive.
- Ensure the docking station is powered on and connected to your computer.
- Insert one or two SATA drives into the slots.
- The drives will be accessible through your computer's file explorer or finder.
- Always safely eject drives from your operating system before removing them from the docking station or powering off the unit to prevent data loss.
6.2. Offline Cloning Function
The offline cloning function allows you to duplicate a source drive to a target drive without needing a computer connection. This is ideal for system upgrades or data backups.
- Prepare Drives:
- Insert the Source Drive (the drive you want to copy FROM) into the HDD 1 (Source) slot.
- Insert the Target Drive (the drive you want to copy TO) into the HDD 2 (Target) slot.
- Important: The target drive's capacity must be equal to or greater than the source drive's capacity. All data on the target drive will be overwritten during the cloning process. Back up any important data on the target drive before proceeding.
- Disconnect USB: Ensure the USB cable is disconnected from the docking station and your computer. The cloning function operates independently.
- Power Off: Ensure the docking station is powered off.
- Initiate Cloning: Press and hold the CLONE button, then press the POWER button. Continue holding the CLONE button until the cloning progress LEDs (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%) begin to flash.
- Confirm Cloning: Release the CLONE button. Then, press the CLONE button again to start the cloning process.
- Monitor Progress: The cloning progress LEDs will illuminate sequentially (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%) to indicate the completion percentage.
- Cloning Complete: When all four progress LEDs (25%, 50%, 75%, 100%) are solid, the cloning process is complete.
- Power Off and Remove Drives: Press the POWER button to turn off the docking station. Safely remove the cloned drives.
Note: Do not interrupt the cloning process once it has started, as this may lead to data corruption on both drives.
7. Maintenance
- Keep the docking station clean and free from dust. Use a soft, dry cloth for cleaning.
- Avoid exposing the device to extreme temperatures, humidity, or direct sunlight.
- Do not attempt to disassemble or repair the unit yourself. Refer to qualified service personnel.
- Ensure proper ventilation around the device during operation.
8. Troubleshooting
- Problem: Drive not detected by computer.
- Ensure the docking station is powered on and the USB cable is securely connected to both the docking station and the computer.
- Try connecting to a different USB port on your computer.
- Verify the hard drive is properly seated in the docking station slot.
- For new drives, check Disk Management (Windows) or Disk Utility (macOS) to ensure the drive is initialized and formatted.
- Test with a different hard drive to rule out drive failure.
- Problem: Offline cloning fails or does not start.
- Ensure the USB cable is disconnected from the docking station.
- Verify the target drive's capacity is equal to or greater than the source drive's capacity.
- Ensure both drives are properly seated in their respective slots (Source in HDD 1, Target in HDD 2).
- Follow the cloning steps precisely: hold CLONE, press POWER, wait for LEDs to flash, release CLONE, then press CLONE again.
- Test both drives individually in data transfer mode to ensure they are functional.
- Problem: Slow data transfer speeds.
- Ensure you are connected to a USB 3.0 port on your computer. USB 2.0 ports will result in slower speeds.
- Verify your hard drive is a SATA III drive for optimal performance.
- Other USB devices or system activity can affect transfer speeds.
