2. Important Safety Instructions
WARNING: Read and understand all instructions before using this appliance. Failure to follow these instructions may result in electric shock, fire, or serious personal injury.
- Always unplug the fan from the power outlet before cleaning, servicing, or moving.
- Do not operate any fan with a damaged cord or plug. Discard fan or return to an authorized service facility for examination and/or repair.
- Do not run cord under carpeting. Do not cover cord with throw rugs, runners, or similar coverings. Do not route cord under furniture or appliances. Arrange cord away from traffic area and where it will not be tripped over.
- Do not insert fingers or any foreign objects through the grille when the fan is operating.
- Ensure the fan is placed on a stable, level surface to prevent tipping.
- This fan is designed for commercial use in clean, dry environments. Do not use outdoors or in wet locations.
- Do not use this fan with any solid-state speed control device.
- Keep children and pets away from the fan during operation.
- Do not block air openings or operate near curtains or other materials that could be drawn into the fan.
3. Package Contents
Verify that all components are present before beginning assembly:
- Fan Head Assembly (with motor, blades, and grilles)
- Pedestal Base
- Adjustable Column (Pole)
- Mounting Hardware (screws, washers, nuts as required for assembly)
- User Manual (this document)
4. Assembly and Setup
Follow these steps to assemble your Dayton Pedestal Air Circulator:
- Attach Column to Base: Securely fasten the adjustable column (pole) to the pedestal base using the provided mounting hardware. Ensure all screws are tightened to prevent wobbling.
- Mount Fan Head: Attach the fan head assembly to the top of the adjustable column. Align the mounting holes and secure with the designated hardware. Ensure the fan head is firmly attached and does not rotate freely unless intended for oscillation.
- Adjust Height: Loosen the height adjustment knob on the column, extend or retract the column to the desired height, and then securely tighten the knob.
- Positioning: Place the assembled fan on a firm, level surface, away from obstacles that could impede airflow or cause the fan to tip over. Ensure the power cord is routed safely to an appropriate electrical outlet.
5. Operating Instructions
To operate your air circulator:
- Power Connection: Plug the 9 ft. power cord into a standard 120V, 60Hz grounded electrical outlet.
- Speed Selection: The fan features 2 speed settings. Use the pull chain switch located on the fan motor housing to cycle through the speeds (e.g., OFF - Low - High - OFF).
- Oscillation: If your model includes an oscillation feature (indicated by "Oscillating: Yes" in specifications), there will typically be a knob or lever on the top or rear of the motor housing. Push down or pull up this knob to engage or disengage the oscillation function.
- Tilt Adjustment: The circulator head features a locking tilt adjustment. Loosen the adjustment knob(s) on the side of the fan head, tilt the fan to the desired angle (up or down), and then securely tighten the knob(s) to lock it in place.
- Shutting Off: To turn off the fan, cycle the pull chain switch until it reaches the "OFF" position. For extended periods of non-use, unplug the fan from the power outlet.
6. Maintenance
WARNING: Always unplug the fan before cleaning or performing any maintenance.
- Cleaning:
- Use a soft, damp cloth to clean the exterior surfaces of the fan.
- To clean the fan blades and grilles, you may need to remove the front grille. Refer to the assembly instructions in reverse for safe removal and reattachment.
- Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents as they may damage the finish.
- Ensure all parts are completely dry before plugging the fan back in.
- Motor Lubrication: The motor is permanently lubricated and requires no additional oiling.
- Storage: When not in use for extended periods, store the fan in a clean, dry place. It is recommended to cover the fan to protect it from dust.
7. Troubleshooting
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Fan does not turn on. | No power to the unit. Pull chain switch is in "OFF" position. | Check if the power cord is securely plugged into a working outlet. Check circuit breaker/fuse. Pull the chain switch to cycle through speeds. |
| Reduced airflow. | Grilles or blades are dirty. Fan is on a low speed setting. | Unplug the fan and clean the grilles and blades. Select a higher speed setting using the pull chain. |
| Fan is noisy. | Loose parts or foreign object. Fan not on a level surface. | Unplug the fan and inspect for any loose screws or objects caught in the blades/grille. Tighten any loose hardware. Ensure the fan is placed on a stable, level surface. |
| Oscillation not working. | Oscillation knob/lever not engaged. | Ensure the oscillation knob/lever on the motor housing is correctly engaged (pushed down or pulled up). |
