Setup

Follow these steps to assemble your saxophone:

1. Prepare the Neck and Mouthpiece:

   Carefully attach the mouthpiece to the neck. Ensure the cork is lightly greased with the provided cork grease to allow for smooth attachment and removal. Secure the reed to the mouthpiece using the ligature, making sure it is centered and not too tight.

2. Attach the Neck to the Body:

   Gently twist the neck into the body of the saxophone. Align the octave key mechanism on the neck with the corresponding lever on the body. Tighten the neck screw to secure it, but do not overtighten.
3. Remove Protective Corks/Tabs:

   Before playing, carefully remove all small corks or plastic tabs that may be placed between the keys to prevent damage during shipping. These are typically found on various keys and tone holes.

4. Attach the Neck Strap:

   Connect the neck strap to the ring on the back of the saxophone body. Adjust the strap length so that the mouthpiece comfortably reaches your mouth without straining your neck or arms.

Operating

The Eastar AS-Ⅱ is designed for ease of play, especially for beginners. Here are some tips for optimal performance:

• Embouchure: Form a firm but relaxed embouchure around the mouthpiece. Your lower lip should be slightly over your lower teeth, resting on the reed.
• Breathing: Use diaphragmatic breathing to support your sound. Take deep breaths and exhale steadily.
• Finger Placement: The ergonomic design with faux mother-of-pearl inlaid keys provides a comfortable feel. Practice smooth transitions between notes to achieve the saxophone's rich and compact sound.
• Intonation: Air and instrument temperature can affect tuning. Warm up the instrument by blowing into it several times. If the pitch is high, pull the mouthpiece slightly off the neck. If the pitch is low, push it further onto the neck.

Maintenance

Regular maintenance is crucial for preserving the sound quality and extending the lifespan of your saxophone:

• After Each Use:

  Use the provided soft swab to clean the inside of the saxophone body and neck to remove moisture. Wipe down the exterior with the soft cloth to remove fingerprints and oils. This helps prevent tarnishing of the golden lacquer finish.
• Pads and Keys:

  Occasionally check the leather pads for stickiness. If a pad sticks, gently clean it with a small piece of cleaning paper or a dollar bill placed under the pad and pressed down. The full bounding key stick gasket and blue copper needle spring are designed for durability and quick response.

• Cork Grease:

  Apply cork grease to the neck cork periodically to keep it supple and ensure easy assembly and disassembly of the mouthpiece.

• Storage:

  Always store your saxophone in its carrying case when not in use. The lightweight backpack-style case provides protection against impacts and environmental changes. Use the provided saxophone stand for temporary storage during practice sessions.

Troubleshooting

Here are some common issues and their potential solutions:

• No Sound or Weak Sound:

  Check if the reed is properly positioned and secured by the ligature. Ensure the reed is not cracked or damaged. Verify that all keys are closing properly and no pads are leaking air. Make sure all protective corks/tabs have been removed.

• Sticky Keys/Pads:

  This can occur due to moisture or residue. Clean the sticky pad by placing a piece of cleaning paper or a dollar bill under it, pressing the key, and gently pulling the paper out. Repeat until the stickiness is gone.

• Poor Intonation:

  As mentioned in the Operating section, adjust the mouthpiece position on the neck. Push it in for a lower pitch, pull it out for a higher pitch. Ensure the instrument is warmed up.
• Keys Not Responding:

  Check for any bent keys or springs that might be preventing proper movement. If a key feels loose or unresponsive, it may require professional adjustment.
