1. Introduction and Product Overview

The INTEX C530 Krystal Clear Cartridge Filter Pump is an essential component for maintaining clean and clear water in your above ground pool. This pump is designed to circulate and filter pool water, removing debris and impurities to ensure a hygienic swimming environment. It features Intex's Hydro Aeration Technology, which enhances water circulation, clarity, and freshness.

Key features include:

  • Hydro Aeration Technology: Improves circulation, filtration, water clarity, and increases negative ions at the water surface.
  • Easy Installation: Simple setup requiring only hose connections and power plug-in.
  • Easy-to-Clean Cartridge: Utilizes Type A filter cartridges (Item #29000E) made with Dacron paper for efficient filtration, recommended to be changed every 2 weeks.
  • 530 GPH Pump Flow Rate: Provides a water flow rate of 530 gallons per hour (2,006 liters per hour) at the pump, suitable for Intex pools up to 3,800 gallons with 1.25-inch (32mm) diameter hose fittings.

2. Safety Information

Always prioritize safety when operating electrical appliances near water. Read and understand all instructions before installation and use.

  • Electrical Safety: The pump operates on 120 volts. Ensure the power outlet is a grounded type and protected by a Ground Fault Circuit Interrupter (GFCI). Do not use extension cords.
  • Water and Electricity: Never operate the pump when people are in the pool. Always disconnect the pump from the power source before performing any maintenance, cleaning, or when handling the filter cartridge.
  • Placement: Position the pump on a stable, level surface, at least 2 feet (0.6 meters) away from the pool wall. Ensure the location is dry and protected from direct sunlight and rain.
  • Children: Keep children away from the pump and electrical connections. Adult supervision is required at all times when children are near the pool.
  • Damage: Do not operate the pump if the power cord or plug is damaged. Contact customer support for assistance.

3. Components

The Intex C530 Krystal Clear Cartridge Filter Pump system includes several key components for its operation:

  • Filter Pump Unit: The main housing containing the motor and filter chamber.
  • Type A Filter Cartridge: The replaceable filter element responsible for trapping debris.
  • Hoses: Two plastic hoses for connecting the pump to the pool's inlet and outlet fittings.
  • GFCI Plug with Energy-Saving Timer: Integrated safety plug and timer for convenient operation.
  • Air Release Valve: Located on top of the pump, used to release trapped air during startup.
  • Sediment Release Valve: Located at the bottom, used for draining sediment.
  • Cartridge Gauge: Indicates when the filter cartridge needs cleaning or replacement.

4. Setup and Installation

Setting up your Intex C530 Krystal Clear Cartridge Filter Pump is straightforward. Follow these steps for proper installation:

  1. Position the Pump: Place the filter pump on a firm, level surface at least 2 feet (0.6 meters) away from the pool wall. Ensure the location is dry and protected from direct sunlight and rain.
  2. Connect Hoses: Connect the two hoses from the pump to the pool's inlet and outlet fittings. The pump has two ports; one for water intake from the pool (usually the lower port) and one for filtered water return to the pool (usually the upper port). Secure all hose clamps tightly to prevent leaks.
  3. Install Filter Cartridge: Ensure a Type A filter cartridge (Item #29000E) is correctly installed inside the filter pump housing. Refer to the maintenance section for detailed instructions on cartridge installation.
  4. Fill the Pool: Fill your pool with water to the recommended level.
  5. Prime the Pump: Before plugging in the pump, open the air release valve on top of the filter pump. Water will begin to fill the pump. Once a steady stream of water flows from the air release valve, close the valve. This removes air from the system, allowing the pump to operate efficiently.
  6. Connect to Power: Plug the GFCI plug into a properly grounded 120-volt electrical outlet. The pump is now ready for operation.

5. Operation

Once installed, operating the Intex C530 Krystal Clear Cartridge Filter Pump is simple. The integrated timer allows for automated daily filtration cycles.

  • Starting the Pump: After priming, plug in the pump. It should start circulating water immediately.
  • Using the Timer: Set the desired operating hours on the GFCI plug's timer. This ensures consistent filtration without manual intervention.
  • Flow Rate: The pump provides a flow rate of 530 GPH (2,006 LPH) at the pump and 475 GPH (1,798 LPH) system flow rate in the pool, ensuring efficient water turnover for pools up to 3,800 gallons.
  • Hydro Aeration Technology: This pump incorporates Intex's Hydro Aeration Technology. As water is pumped back into the pool, air is introduced, creating bubbles. This process improves water circulation, enhances filtration by clumping fine particles, and increases negative ions at the water surface, leading to improved water clarity and freshness.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance of your filter pump is crucial for optimal performance and water clarity. The Type A filter cartridge should be cleaned or replaced regularly.

  1. Disconnect Power: Always unplug the filter pump from the electrical outlet before performing any maintenance.
  2. Remove Filter Cartridge: Unscrew the collar of the filter pump and carefully remove the top cover. Take out the used Type A filter cartridge.
  3. Clean or Replace Cartridge:
    • For cleaning, rinse the cartridge thoroughly with a garden hose to remove debris.
    • It is recommended to replace the Type A filter cartridge (Item #29000E) every 2 weeks for best results, especially during heavy use.
  4. Reinstall Cartridge: Place a clean or new filter cartridge back into the pump housing. Ensure it is seated correctly.
  5. Secure Cover: Replace the top cover and screw the collar back on tightly.
  6. Prime and Restart: Follow the priming steps from Section 4 before plugging the pump back in.
