4. Setup and Installation

4.1 Mounting

The PNOZ/X7/24VAC/DC is designed for DIN rail mounting. Ensure adequate ventilation around the device.

  1. Mount the safety relay on a standard 35mm DIN rail in a control cabinet.
  2. Ensure secure fastening to prevent vibration.

4.2 Wiring

Refer to the wiring diagram below for correct connection. All connections must comply with local electrical codes.

PILZ PNOZ/X7/24VAC/DC Safety Relay wiring terminals

Figure 2: Close-up of the PILZ PNOZ/X7/24VAC/DC terminals. The top terminals are A1 (power input), 13, and 23 (safety outputs). The bottom terminals are A2 (power return), 14, 24 (safety outputs), and Y1, Y2 (feedback loop/reset). This view highlights the screw terminals for electrical connections.

  • Power Supply (24VAC/DC): Connect the positive supply to terminal A1 and the negative/neutral to terminal A2.
  • Input Circuit (E-Stop/Safety Gate): Connect the safety device (e.g., E-stop button) across terminals Y1 and Y2. For 1-channel wiring, ensure the circuit is closed when the safety device is active.
  • Output Contacts: Terminals 13-14 and 23-24 are normally open (NO) safety contacts. Connect these to the control circuit of the machinery to be controlled.
  • Feedback Loop: For automatic reset, the feedback loop (Y1-Y2) must be closed.

IMPORTANT:

Always verify wiring against the specific application requirements and the detailed wiring diagrams provided in the full product documentation from PILZ.

5. Operating Instructions

The PNOZ/X7/24VAC/DC operates with an automatic reset function. Once the safety circuit is closed and the input conditions are met, the output contacts will close automatically.

5.1 Power-Up

  1. Ensure all wiring is correct and secure.
  2. Apply 24VAC/DC power to terminals A1 and A2.
  3. The "POWER" LED indicator will illuminate.

5.2 Normal Operation

  • When the safety input (e.g., E-stop released, safety gate closed) is active, the "CH.1/CH.2" LED will illuminate.
  • The safety output contacts (13-14, 23-24) will close, allowing the machine to operate.

5.3 Safety Function Activation

  • If the safety input is interrupted (e.g., E-stop pressed, safety gate opened), the "CH.1/CH.2" LED will extinguish.
  • The safety output contacts (13-14, 23-24) will open immediately, bringing the machine to a safe stop.

5.4 Automatic Reset

Once the safety input condition is restored (e.g., E-stop released, safety gate closed), the PNOZ/X7/24VAC/DC will automatically reset, and the output contacts will close again, provided no faults are detected.

6. Maintenance

The PILZ PNOZ/X7/24VAC/DC safety relay is designed for minimal maintenance. Regular inspections are recommended to ensure continued safe operation.

6.1 Routine Checks

  • Visual Inspection: Periodically check the device for any signs of damage, discoloration, or loose connections.
  • Function Test: Regularly test the entire safety circuit, including the E-stop buttons and safety gates, to ensure the safety relay correctly de-energizes the outputs.
  • LED Indicators: Verify that the "POWER" and "CH.1/CH.2" LEDs illuminate and extinguish as expected during operation and safety function activation.

6.2 Cleaning

If cleaning is necessary, disconnect power and use a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.

CAUTION:

Do not attempt to open or repair the device. Refer all servicing to authorized personnel.
