4. Setup
4.1 Unpacking and Initial Cleaning
- Remove all packing materials and any labels from the coffee maker.
- Wash the carafe, lid, and removable filter basket in warm, soapy water. Rinse thoroughly.
- Wipe the exterior of the coffee maker with a soft, damp cloth.
- Before brewing coffee for the first time, operate the coffee maker with water only to clean the internal components. Fill the water reservoir to the 12-cup level and run a full brew cycle without coffee grounds. Discard the water. Repeat this process once more.
4.2 Water Filter Installation
Your coffee maker includes a water filter to help reduce chlorine from tap water. Refer to the water filter packaging for specific installation instructions. Generally, the filter is placed in the water reservoir or filter basket area.
4.3 Placement
Place the coffee maker on a flat, stable surface away from the edge of the counter. Ensure there is adequate clearance above the unit for the lid to open fully.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Basic Brewing
- Open the lid and fill the water reservoir with cold, fresh water to the desired level using the water level indicator.
- Place a paper filter (or reusable filter, if applicable) into the filter basket.
- Add the desired amount of ground coffee to the filter. A general guideline is one tablespoon of coffee per cup, but adjust to personal preference.
- Close the lid securely.
- Place the empty carafe on the warming plate.
- Press the ON/OFF button to begin brewing. The indicator light will illuminate.
- Once brewing is complete, the coffee maker will automatically keep the coffee warm.
5.2 Using Programmable Features
The Mr. Coffee QINN-rnsh model offers several programmable features for enhanced convenience.
- Setting the Clock: Press the HOUR and MINUTE buttons to set the current time.
- Delay Brew: To set a delayed start time, first set the current time. Then, press the SET DELAY button and use the HOUR and MINUTE buttons to select your desired brew time. Press SET DELAY again to confirm. The 'Delay Brew' indicator will light up.
- Brew Strength: Select between 'Strong' or 'Regular' brew strength by pressing the BREW STRENGTH button. The selected strength will be indicated on the display.
- Freshness Timer: This feature monitors how long the coffee has been sitting on the warming plate, providing an indication of its freshness.
- Grab-A-Cup Auto Pause: This feature temporarily stops the flow of coffee if the carafe is removed during the brewing cycle, allowing you to pour a cup before brewing is complete. Replace the carafe within 20 seconds to prevent overflow.

6. Cleaning and Maintenance
6.1 Daily Cleaning
Always unplug the coffee maker before cleaning. Allow the unit to cool completely.
- Wash the carafe, carafe lid, and filter basket in warm, soapy water. These parts are also top-rack dishwasher safe.
- Wipe the exterior of the coffee maker, including the warming plate, with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or scouring pads.
- Do not immerse the coffee maker in water or any other liquid.
6.2 Descaling (Mineral Deposit Removal)
Mineral deposits (calcium) can build up in your coffee maker over time, affecting its performance. Descaling should be performed every 80 brew cycles or every 2-3 months, depending on water hardness.
- Fill the carafe with one part white vinegar and two parts cold water.
- Pour the vinegar solution into the water reservoir.
- Place an empty paper filter in the filter basket and close the lid.
- Place the empty carafe on the warming plate.
- Press the ON/OFF button to start a brew cycle.
- After approximately 30 seconds, turn the coffee maker OFF.
- Allow the solution to soak for 30 minutes.
- Turn the coffee maker ON again and let the remaining solution brew through.
- Discard the solution and rinse the carafe thoroughly.
- Fill the water reservoir with fresh, cold water and run two full brew cycles with water only to flush out any remaining vinegar.
