1. Introduction

The Rugged Radios RRP5050 is a 2-place intercom system designed for clear communication in high-noise environments, such as off-road vehicles, UTVs, and race trucks. It features dual volume controls for independent adjustment by driver and co-driver, and a 3.5mm music input for audio entertainment. This manual provides instructions for proper setup, operation, and maintenance of your RRP5050 intercom.

Proper installation is crucial for optimal performance. Refer to the diagrams below for port identification.

4.1 Mounting the Intercom

The RRP5050 intercom can be mounted using the supplied side channel L brackets. Optional dash and UTV-specific mounting brackets are available separately for a custom fit.

4.2 Connecting Headsets

Connect the driver's headset to the 'Driver' port and the co-driver's headset to the 'Co-driver' port on the rear of the intercom. Ensure connections are secure.

4.3 Connecting a 2-Way Radio

Utilize the integrated radio jumper pigtail to connect your 2-way handheld or mobile radio. This allows for communication with other vehicles or base stations.

4.4 Power Connection

Connect the intercom to a 12V power source in your vehicle. Ensure proper polarity (red to positive, black to negative) to prevent damage.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Powering On/Off

The intercom powers on automatically when connected to a 12V power source. The 'Pwr/Xmt' indicator light on the front panel will illuminate when the unit is active.

5.2 Adjusting Volume

Use the 'Driver' and 'Co-Driver' knobs on the front panel to adjust the individual listening volume for each occupant. Rotate clockwise to increase volume and counter-clockwise to decrease.

5.3 Music Input

Connect an audio device (e.g., MP3 player, smartphone) to the 3.5mm 'Music' input jack on the front panel. Audio from the connected device will be played through the headsets. The music volume is typically controlled by the connected device.

5.4 Radio Communication

When a 2-way radio is connected, the intercom facilitates communication through the radio. The 'Pwr/Xmt' light will indicate when the radio is transmitting. Consult your radio's manual for specific Push-To-Talk (PTT) button operation.
