1. Overview

The SMARTGEN HAT600N series ATS controller is an intelligent dual-supply module designed for automatic transfer switch (ATS) applications. It features programmable functions, automatic measurement capabilities, an LCD display, and digital communication. This controller integrates digital intelligence and networking to minimize operational errors, making it an ideal solution for ATS systems.

At its core, the HAT600N series ATS controller utilizes a microprocessor to accurately detect 2-way-3-phase voltage. It can make precise judgments and output passive control switch commands in response to abnormal voltage conditions, including over/under voltage, phase loss, and over/under frequency. The controller is designed with comprehensive consideration for various ATS applications, allowing direct use with Intelligent ATS, Contactor ATS, and Circuit Breaker ATS systems. Its compact structure, advanced circuitry, simple wiring, and high reliability make it suitable for a wide range of applications in electric power, telecommunications, petroleum, coal, metallurgy, railways, municipal administration, intelligent buildings, electrical devices, automatic control, and testing systems.

3.2 Mounting

The HAT600N features a modular design for embedded installation. Ensure adequate space for ventilation and access to terminals. The panel cutout dimensions are 186mm x 141mm.

3.3 Power Supply

The controller operates on a wide DC power supply range of 8V to 35V. It can withstand a maximum 80V DC input momentarily. Alternatively, it can be supplied via an HWS560 module (AC 85V~560V input, DC 12V output).

3.4 AC Voltage Input

The controller supports various AC systems (3-phase 4-wire, 3-phase 3-wire, single-phase 2-wire, and 2-phase 3-wire). Ensure correct wiring for voltage inputs (L-L and L-N) as per the specific model variant (HAT600N/HAT600NI or HAT600NB/HAT600NBI).

4. Operating Instructions

The HAT600N ATS Controller offers both automatic and manual operating modes, controlled via its push-button interface and LCD display.

4.1 Mode Selection

  • Automatic Mode: The controller continuously monitors the primary and secondary power sources. Upon detection of an abnormality in the primary source, it automatically initiates the transfer sequence to the secondary source. Once the primary source recovers, the system automatically transfers back.
  • Manual Mode: Allows for manual control of the transfer switch. In this mode, operators can force the switch to close or open using the dedicated buttons on the controller's front panel. This mode is typically used for testing or maintenance.

4.2 Parameter Settings

All operational parameters can be configured directly on site using the controller's push-buttons and LCD display. Access to these settings is protected by two different password levels to ensure only authorized personnel can make adjustments. Parameters include system type, voltage/frequency thresholds, transfer delays, and scheduling for genset trials.

4.3 Monitoring

The LCD display provides real-time monitoring of 2-way 3-phase voltage, frequency, active power, apparent power, power factor, and 3-phase current for both power sources. The controller also logs up to 99 events circularly, providing a history of operations and alarms.

6. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your SMARTGEN HAT600N ATS Controller, regular maintenance is recommended. While the controller is designed for high reliability, periodic checks can prevent potential issues.

  • Visual Inspection: Periodically inspect the controller for any signs of physical damage, loose connections, or dust accumulation.
  • Cleaning: Keep the controller's exterior and display clean using a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Terminal Checks: Ensure all wiring terminals are securely fastened. Loose connections can lead to intermittent operation or damage.
  • Environmental Conditions: Verify that the operating environment remains within the specified temperature and humidity ranges to prevent premature component failure.
  • Firmware Updates: Check the manufacturer's website for any available firmware updates that may improve performance or address known issues.

For any complex maintenance or repairs, it is recommended to contact qualified service personnel or SMARTGEN technical support.

This section provides general guidance for common issues you might encounter with the HAT600N ATS Controller. For detailed diagnostics, refer to the full product manual or contact technical support.

  • Controller Not Powering On:
    • Check the DC power supply connections and ensure the voltage is within the 8V-35V range.
    • If using an HWS560 module, verify its AC input and DC output.
    • Inspect fuses if present in the power supply line.
  • Automatic Transfer Not Occurring:
    • Ensure the controller is in "Automatic Mode".
    • Check voltage and frequency readings on the LCD for both sources to confirm abnormalities are detected.
    • Verify that protection parameters (over/under voltage, frequency, phase loss) are correctly set and not preventing transfer.
    • Inspect control wiring to the ATS mechanism.
  • Incorrect Readings on LCD:
    • Verify AC voltage and current input wiring according to the appropriate diagram (Figure 2).
    • Ensure the system type (3-phase 4-wire, etc.) is correctly configured in the controller settings.
  • Communication Issues (RS485):
    • Check RS485 wiring for correct polarity and secure connections.
    • Verify ModBus communication parameters (baud rate, address) are correctly set on both the controller and the connected device.

If the issue persists after performing these checks, contact SMARTGEN technical support for further assistance.
