Matatalab Artist Add-on Coding Set Instruction Manual

Model: 900001-2196

1. Introduction

The Matatalab Artist Add-on is an expansion set designed to be used with the Matatalab Coding Robot Set (sold separately). This add-on enhances the coding experience by allowing children aged 4-9 to explore geometry and art through programming. It enables the Matatalab robot to draw various shapes and patterns on paper, fostering creativity and logical thinking.

This manual provides detailed instructions for setting up, operating, and maintaining your Artist Add-on to ensure a rewarding and educational experience.

2. What's Included

The Matatalab Artist Add-on package contains the following components:

  • 20 x Angle Coding Blocks (various angles from 30° to 150°)
  • 3 x Washable Markers (random colors)
  • 3 x Double-sided Warm-up Cards (featuring 6 activities)
Contents of the Matatalab Artist Add-on set, including angle blocks, washable markers, and warm-up cards.

3. Setup

Before using the Artist Add-on, ensure you have the Matatalab Coding Robot Set fully charged and ready. The Artist Add-on requires the main Matatalab robot and coding board for operation.

  1. Prepare the Robot: Ensure your Matatalab robot is powered on and connected to the coding board.
  2. Insert Marker: Gently insert one of the washable markers into the designated slot on the Matatalab robot's pen holder accessory. Ensure the marker is securely held and the tip is positioned to touch the paper when the robot moves.
  3. Prepare Drawing Surface: Place a piece of paper on a flat, stable surface where the robot can move freely.
  4. Select Warm-up Card (Optional): Choose a warm-up card to guide your first drawing activity. These cards provide visual examples of shapes and the corresponding coding block sequences.

4. Operating Instructions

The Artist Add-on uses specialized angle coding blocks to control the robot's turns, allowing it to draw geometric shapes.

  1. Place Coding Blocks: On the Matatalab coding board, arrange the movement blocks (forward, backward) and the new angle blocks (e.g., 30°, 60°, 90°, 120°) in the desired sequence to form a path for the robot. The angle blocks dictate the degree of turn the robot will make.
  2. Execute Code: Press the 'Play' button on the coding board. The robot will then follow the programmed sequence, moving across the paper and drawing the path with the inserted marker.
  3. Observe and Adjust: Watch the robot draw. If the shape is not as expected, review your coding block sequence and adjust the movement and angle blocks as needed. Experiment with different angles and movement combinations to create various geometric figures.

The warm-up cards provide excellent starting points for understanding how different angles combine to form shapes like triangles, squares, and stars. This hands-on approach helps children grasp fundamental geometric concepts.

5. Maintenance

Proper care will extend the life of your Matatalab Artist Add-on:

  • Markers: Use only the provided washable markers or other compatible washable markers. Replace caps tightly after use to prevent drying.
  • Cleaning: Wipe the coding blocks and robot with a soft, dry cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Storage: Store all components in their original packaging or a suitable container in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
  • Robot Care: Refer to the main Matatalab Coding Robot Set manual for specific robot maintenance and charging instructions.

6. Troubleshooting
