Operating Instructions

Follow these steps to brew a perfect cup of pour-over coffee:

  1. Grind Coffee Beans: For optimal flavor, use freshly ground coffee beans. A medium-fine grind is generally recommended for pour-over brewing.
  2. Measure Coffee: Use the included SCA measuring spoon to add the desired amount of coffee grounds into the filter. A common ratio is 1-2 tablespoons of coffee per 6 ounces of water, adjusted to personal preference.
  3. Hand adding coffee grounds to a paper filter in the pour over cone

  4. Heat Water: Heat fresh water to approximately 200-205°F (93-96°C). Do not use boiling water, as it can scorch the coffee.
  5. Pre-wet Filter (Optional, for paper filters): If using a paper filter, pour a small amount of hot water over it to rinse and pre-heat the carafe. Discard this water before adding coffee grounds.
  6. Bloom the Coffee: Pour just enough hot water over the coffee grounds to saturate them completely. Allow the coffee to "bloom" for 30-45 seconds. This releases trapped gases and enhances flavor extraction.
  7. Close-up of coffee grounds blooming in a pour over filter

  8. Pour Water: Slowly and steadily pour the remaining hot water over the grounds in a circular motion, starting from the center and moving outwards, then back to the center. Maintain a consistent flow to ensure even extraction.
  9. Pour over coffee brewing with steam rising from the carafe

  10. Serve: Once all the water has filtered through, remove the filter cone. Your fresh pour-over coffee is ready to serve.

Maintenance and Cleaning

Regular cleaning will ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your pour-over coffee kit.

  • After each use, discard used coffee grounds and paper filter (if used).
  • Rinse the permanent filter, glass carafe, and measuring spoon with warm water.
  • For a more thorough cleaning, wash all components with mild dish soap and warm water. Use a soft brush if necessary to remove any coffee residue from the permanent filter.
  • The silicone sleeve can be removed for cleaning.
  • All components are dishwasher safe (top rack recommended for glass carafe).
  • Ensure all parts are completely dry before storing.
