Setup and Installation

Before installing your new water filter, ensure you have read and understood all instructions. It is recommended to have a towel ready to catch any drips during the replacement process.

  1. Locate the Filter Housing: Refer to your refrigerator's owner's manual to find the exact location of the water filter housing. This is typically inside the refrigerator compartment, in the base grille, or in an upper right-hand corner.
  2. Turn Off Water Supply: For some refrigerator models, it may be necessary to turn off the water supply to the refrigerator before removing the old filter. Consult your refrigerator's manual for specific instructions.
  3. Remove Old Filter: Twist the old filter counter-clockwise (or as indicated by your refrigerator's manual) until it unlocks. Pull the filter straight out to remove it. Some water may drip, which is normal.
  4. Prepare New Filter: Remove the protective blue caps from the ends of the new Kenmore 9083 filter.
  5. Insert New Filter: Align the new filter with the housing. Push the filter straight in until it is fully seated, then twist it clockwise (or as indicated by your refrigerator's manual) until it locks into place. You should feel a slight resistance and then a click.
  6. Flush the System: After installation, flush approximately 3 to 4 gallons of water through the dispenser to remove any air from the system and clear any carbon fines. The water may appear cloudy or discolored initially; this is normal and will clear up as you flush the system.
  7. Reset Filter Indicator: Most refrigerators have a filter indicator light. Refer to your refrigerator's manual for instructions on how to reset this light. This typically involves pressing and holding a specific button for a few seconds.

Operating Parameters

For optimal performance, ensure the filter operates within the following parameters:

  • Temperature: Min. 33°F (0.6°C) / Max. 100°F (37.8°C)
  • Working Pressure: Min. 30 psi (207 kPa) / Max. 120 psi (827 kPa)
  • Flow Rate: 0.5 gpm (1.9 Lpm)
  • Capacity: 200 gallons (757 liters) with PID / 100 gallons (379 liters) without PID

This is a mechanical and chemical reduction filter.

Maintenance

The Kenmore 9083 water filter should be replaced every 6 months, or sooner if the flow rate noticeably reduces, or if the filter has processed 200 gallons (with PID) or 100 gallons (without PID) of water, whichever comes first. Regular replacement ensures continuous access to clean, filtered water.

When disposing of the old filter, it is recommended to place the blue caps back on the filter ends to prevent any residual water from leaking.
