5. Operating Instructions
The XR700 router utilizes DumaOS for its advanced gaming features. Access the DumaOS dashboard via your web browser after logging into the router.
5.1. Quality of Service (QoS)
QoS allows you to prioritize network traffic for specific devices or applications, ensuring that critical data (like game packets) receives preferential treatment. This helps in reducing lag spikes during high network usage.
- Navigate to the QoS section in the DumaOS dashboard.
- Configure bandwidth allocation for download and upload speeds.
- Assign priority levels to your gaming devices to ensure they receive adequate bandwidth.

6. Maintenance
To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your XR700 router, consider the following maintenance practices:
- Firmware Updates: Regularly check for and install the latest firmware updates from the NETGEAR support website or through the router's interface. Firmware updates often include performance improvements, security patches, and bug fixes.
- Physical Placement: Ensure the router is in a well-ventilated area to prevent overheating. Avoid placing it in enclosed spaces or near heat sources.
- Cleaning: Periodically clean the router's exterior with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust. Do not use liquid cleaners directly on the device.
- Rebooting: If you experience network issues, a simple reboot of the router (unplugging the power for 10 seconds and plugging it back in) can often resolve temporary glitches.
7. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your XR700 router.
7.1. No Internet Connection
- Check Cables: Ensure all Ethernet cables are securely connected to the router and modem.
- Modem Status: Verify that your modem is working correctly and has an active internet connection.
- Router LEDs: Check the Internet LED on the router. If it's not solid white, there might be an issue with the connection to your modem or ISP.
- Reboot Devices: Power cycle both your modem and router. Unplug them for 30 seconds, then plug the modem back in, wait for it to fully boot, and then plug in the router.
7.2. Slow or Unstable WiFi Connection
- Router Placement: Ensure the router is centrally located and not obstructed by large objects or walls.
- Interference: Keep the router away from other electronic devices (cordless phones, microwaves) that operate on similar frequencies.
- Channel Selection: In the router's WiFi settings, try changing the WiFi channel to a less congested one.
- Firmware: Ensure your router's firmware is up to date.
- 5GHz Band Not Visible: If the 5GHz network is not appearing, ensure it is enabled in the router settings. Some older devices may not support 5GHz WiFi.
7.3. Router Interface is Slow or Unresponsive
- Browser Cache: Clear your web browser's cache and cookies, or try accessing the interface from a different browser.
- Reboot Router: A simple reboot can often resolve temporary performance issues.
- Firmware: Ensure the router's firmware is the latest version.
- Disable Ad Blockers: Some ad-blocking browser extensions can interfere with router interfaces. Try disabling them temporarily.
7.4. Ethernet Disconnections During Gaming
- Cable Integrity: Inspect the Ethernet cable for any damage. Try using a different, known-good Ethernet cable.
- Port Check: Try connecting to a different Ethernet port on the router.
- Driver Updates: Ensure your computer's network adapter drivers are up to date.
- Router Firmware: Verify that the router's firmware is the latest version, as updates can address stability issues.
