- Nickel Cadmium Battery (pre-installed or separate)
- Instruction Manual
4. Setup and Installation
The CU2 is designed for quick installation on walls or ceilings. Ensure the mounting surface is suitable to support the fixture's weight.
4.1 Mounting the Fixture
- Select a suitable mounting location: Choose a wall or ceiling location that provides adequate emergency illumination and is within reach of the intended power supply.
- Prepare the mounting surface: Use the provided mounting template (if applicable) or the fixture's backplate to mark drilling locations for screws.
- Drill pilot holes: Drill holes appropriate for the provided mounting screws and anchors.
- Secure the backplate: Attach the fixture's backplate securely to the wall or ceiling using the provided hardware.
4.2 Wiring Instructions
WARNING: Ensure power is OFF at the circuit breaker before proceeding with wiring.
- Connect AC power: Route the AC supply wires through the appropriate knockout on the fixture's backplate. Connect the building's AC supply wires to the corresponding wires on the emergency light fixture (typically Black to Black for Line, White to White for Neutral, and Green to Green for Ground).
- Connect the battery: If the battery is not pre-connected, carefully plug the battery connector into the receptacle on the circuit board. Ensure correct polarity.
- Close the housing: Carefully tuck all wires into the housing and snap the front cover onto the backplate, ensuring it is securely closed.

4.3 Initial Charge
After installation and connecting to AC power, allow the unit to charge for a minimum of 24 hours before conducting any tests. This ensures the battery is fully charged and can provide the rated emergency duration.
5. Operating Instructions
5.1 Automatic Operation
Once properly installed and charged, the CU2 Emergency Light will operate automatically. When AC power is present, the unit will remain in standby mode, charging its battery. In the event of an AC power failure, the unit will automatically switch to battery power, illuminating the LED lamp heads.
5.2 Test Button
A test button is located on the fixture. Pressing and holding this button simulates an AC power failure, causing the unit to switch to battery power and illuminate the lamp heads. Release the button to return to normal operation. This feature is used for routine testing.
5.3 Adjustable Lamp Heads
The two LED lamp heads are fully adjustable. Gently pivot and rotate each head to direct the light to the desired areas for emergency egress.
6. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures optimal performance of your emergency light.
6.1 Routine Testing
- Monthly: Press the test button for at least 30 seconds. The LED lamp heads should illuminate. Release the button; the lamp heads should turn off, and the charging indicator light should turn on.
- Annually: Disconnect AC power to the unit for 90 minutes. The LED lamp heads should remain illuminated for the entire duration. Reconnect AC power after the test.
6.2 Battery Replacement
The CU2 uses a long-life nickel cadmium battery with an expected life-cycle of more than 10 years. If the unit fails to maintain its rated emergency duration during testing, the battery may need replacement. Contact a qualified service technician for battery replacement.
6.3 Cleaning
Clean the exterior of the fixture and lamp heads periodically with a soft, damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
7. Troubleshooting
If the emergency light does not function correctly, refer to the following common issues and solutions:
- Light does not illuminate during power outage or test:
- Check if AC power is connected and active.
- Ensure the battery is properly connected.
- Allow 24 hours for initial battery charge.
- Battery may be old and require replacement.
- Emergency duration is less than 90 minutes:
- Ensure the unit has received a full 24-hour charge.
- Battery may be nearing the end of its life and require replacement.
- Charging indicator light is off:
- Verify AC power supply.
- Check wiring connections.
- Contact a qualified technician if the issue persists.
