2. Setup Instructions
Follow these steps to set up your Hanchen Water Distiller for first use.
2.1 Unpacking and Component Check
Carefully remove all components from the packaging. Verify that all parts are present and undamaged. The package should include the distiller unit, a 4L glass collection jug, a power cord, a distiller cleaner, and carbon filters.
2.2 Handle Installation for Collection Jug
The collection jug handle may require assembly. Refer to the following visual guide for proper installation.

2.3 Initial Placement and Connection
- Place the distiller unit on a stable, flat, and heat-resistant surface. Ensure adequate ventilation around the unit.
- Connect the power cord to the distiller unit and then to a grounded 110V power outlet.
- Position the glass collection jug directly under the distiller's water outlet spout.

3. Operating Instructions
Follow these steps for safe and effective operation of your water distiller.
3.1 Filling the Distiller
- Remove the top cover of the distiller unit.
- Fill the stainless steel boiling chamber with tap water. Do not exceed the maximum fill line indicated inside the chamber.
- Replace the top cover securely.
3.2 Starting the Distillation Process
- Ensure the collection jug is correctly positioned under the outlet spout.
- Press the green ON button on the front of the unit to begin the distillation process. The unit will start heating the water.
- The distiller will produce approximately 1-1.2 liters of distilled water per hour. A full 4-liter cycle typically takes 3.5 to 4 hours.

Figure 3: The double button design allows for easy control of the distiller.
3.3 Stopping the Distillation Process
- The unit will automatically shut off when the water level in the boiling chamber is too low or the internal temperature reaches 115°C (239°F).
- To manually stop the process at any time, press the red OFF button.
- Allow the unit to cool down before handling or refilling.
4. Maintenance and Cleaning
Regular cleaning is essential to maintain the performance and longevity of your distiller. Scale buildup is normal and should be addressed.
4.1 Descaling the Boiling Chamber
The machine will accumulate scale on the inner wall after use. This is not rust. Use citric acid cleaner regularly for descaling.
- Ensure the distiller is unplugged and completely cooled.
- Pour hot water into the stainless steel container, slightly above the scale line.
- Add 1-4 tablespoons of citric acid cleaner into the container, adjusting the amount based on the degree of scale buildup.
- Do not cover the top cover. Switch on the power supply and boil the water for approximately 30 minutes (or longer if necessary for heavy scale).
- Pour out the liquid and rinse the container thoroughly with clean water. Repeat if scale is still present.

4.2 Carbon Filter Replacement
The activated carbon filter improves the taste of distilled water. Replace the carbon filter as needed, typically every 2-3 months depending on usage.

5. Troubleshooting
This section addresses common issues you might encounter with your Hanchen Water Distiller.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Distiller does not turn on. | No power supply; power cord not connected; unit overheated. | Ensure power cord is securely plugged into a working outlet. Check if the red OFF button is pressed. Allow unit to cool if it recently shut off automatically. |
| Water production is slow or stopped. | Insufficient water in the boiling chamber; heavy scale buildup; cooling fan malfunction. | Refill water to the appropriate level. Perform descaling as per maintenance instructions. Contact customer support if cooling fan is not operating. |
| Distilled water has an unusual taste. | Carbon filter needs replacement; residual impurities from initial use. | Replace the activated carbon filter. For first use, it is recommended to discard the first batch of distilled water. |
| Unit automatically shuts off prematurely. | Water level too low; internal temperature exceeded safe limits. | This is a safety feature. Ensure adequate water is in the boiling chamber. Allow the unit to cool before restarting. |
If you encounter issues not listed here or if the suggested solutions do not resolve the problem, please contact Hanchen customer support.
