- Open the RayClic-PC power connection housing.
- Prepare the heating cable end according to Raychem's specific instructions for XL-Trace cables, typically involving stripping the outer jacket, braid, and inner jacket to expose the bus wires.
- Insert the prepared heating cable into one side of the RayClic-PC unit.
- Secure the heating cable bus wires into the designated terminals within the RayClic-PC, ensuring a firm electrical connection.
- Connect the ground braid to the ground terminal.
- Repeat the process for the power supply cable on the other side of the RayClic-PC, connecting live, neutral, and ground wires to their respective terminals.
- Ensure all connections are tight and free from loose strands.
- Close the RayClic-PC housing securely, ensuring the seals are properly seated.
4.3. Installing the End Seal
- At the opposite end of the heating cable, install the RayClic-E End Seal according to its specific instructions. This typically involves trimming the cable and sealing the end to prevent moisture ingress and electrical shorting.
4.4. Mounting
- Use the provided SB-04 Pipe Mounting Bracket to securely attach the RayClic-PC unit to the pipe or desired surface.
- Ensure the connection is positioned to avoid mechanical damage and is accessible for future inspection if required.
5. Operating Instructions
Once the Raychem RAYCLIC-PC Power Connection Kit and associated heating cable system are correctly installed and all safety checks are completed, the system is ready for operation.
- Restore power to the heating cable circuit at the main breaker.
- The heating cable system will now operate as designed, providing heat to the pipe or surface it is installed on.
- Monitor the system for proper function, especially during initial startup.
6. Maintenance
The Raychem RAYCLIC-PC Power Connection Kit is designed for long-term reliability with minimal maintenance. However, periodic inspection is recommended.
- Annual Inspection: Visually inspect the connection kit and heating cable for any signs of physical damage, corrosion, or loose connections.
- Environmental Factors: Ensure the connection remains protected from excessive moisture or mechanical stress.
- Cleaning: If necessary, gently clean the exterior of the unit with a damp cloth. Do not use harsh chemicals.
- Power Disconnection: Always disconnect power before performing any maintenance or inspection that requires opening the unit.
7. Troubleshooting
If the heating cable system is not functioning as expected, consider the following troubleshooting steps:
- No Heat:
- Check if power is supplied to the circuit breaker.
- Verify that the circuit breaker has not tripped.
- Inspect the power connection for loose wires (ensure power is OFF before inspection).
- Check the heating cable for visible damage.
- Intermittent Operation:
- Ensure all connections within the RayClic-PC are secure.
- Check for any signs of moisture ingress into the connection kit or end seal.
- Circuit Breaker Tripping:
- Immediately disconnect power.
- This indicates a short circuit or overload. Inspect the heating cable and all connections for damage or improper wiring.
- Consult a qualified electrician if the issue persists.
For issues not resolved by these steps, contact a qualified electrician or Raychem technical support.
