Safety Information

Your safety is paramount. Always wear your helmet correctly and ensure it is properly secured before riding. This helmet is designed to reduce the risk of head injury in the event of an impact, but it cannot protect against all possible impacts. Always ride responsibly and within your skill limits.

Legal Disclaimer: This helmet is DOT approved and FMVSS 218 certified for legal on-road motorcycle use in the United States.

Never modify your helmet in any way, as this can compromise its protective capabilities and void its certification.

Setup

1. Visor Adjustment

The extended visor is designed to block sunlight and protect from debris. It is flexible to bend rather than break. To adjust the angle of the visor, loosen the screws on either side of the helmet, position the visor as desired, and then securely tighten the screws. Do not overtighten.

2. Goggle Band Fitment

The helmet features a dual-position goggle band fitment system. This allows you to adjust the position of your goggle strap for optimal comfort and secure placement. Experiment with both positions to find the best fit for your specific goggles and head shape.

3. Mouth Vent

The mouth vent is designed for tool-less removal, facilitating easy cleaning. To remove, gently unclip or slide the vent mechanism as indicated in the design. Ensure it is securely re-attached before riding.

Operating the Helmet

1. Wearing the Helmet

  1. Hold the helmet by the chin straps with the opening facing you.
  2. Expand the opening by pulling the chin straps outwards.
  3. Slide the helmet onto your head, ensuring it fits snugly and comfortably without excessive pressure points.
  4. Adjust the helmet so that the eye-port provides a clear, unobstructed view, especially for downward visibility.

2. Securing the Chin Strap

Always fasten the chin strap securely. The HJC i50 helmet typically uses a Double D-ring retention system. Thread the strap through both D-rings, then back through the first D-ring only. Pull tight until the strap is snug under your chin. Ensure there is no slack and the helmet cannot be rolled off your head.

3. Ventilation System

The Advanced Channeling Ventilation system provides full front-to-back airflow. Air enters through front vents and exits through rear exhaust vents, flushing heat and humidity up and out. Ensure vents are clear of obstructions for optimal performance. The helmet features 13 vent holes for efficient airflow.

Maintenance

1. Cleaning the Exterior Shell

Clean the helmet shell with a soft cloth, warm water, and mild soap. Avoid harsh chemicals, solvents, or abrasive cleaners, as these can damage the shell material and protective coatings. Rinse thoroughly and air dry.

2. Cleaning the Interior Lining

The interior comfort liner can often be removed for cleaning. Refer to the helmet's specific instructions for removal. Wash gently by hand with mild soap and water, or follow manufacturer guidelines for machine washing if applicable. Allow to air dry completely before re-installing.

3. Visor Care

Clean the visor with a soft, damp cloth. For stubborn dirt, use a helmet-specific visor cleaner. Avoid scratching the visor. Replace the visor if it becomes scratched or damaged, as this can impair visibility.

4. Mouth Vent Cleaning

The tool-less changeable mouth vent can be easily removed for cleaning. Wash with warm water and mild soap, then rinse and dry thoroughly before reattaching.

5. Storage

Store your helmet in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. Avoid placing heavy objects on the helmet, which could deform the shell or liner.

Troubleshooting

1. Helmet Feels Too Tight or Loose

A helmet should fit snugly without causing painful pressure points. If it feels too tight, ensure you have the correct size. If it feels too loose, it may not provide adequate protection. Check if the interior padding is correctly installed. If the fit is still incorrect, consider a different size.

2. Excessive Noise While Riding

Ensure all vents are properly closed if you wish to reduce airflow noise. Check that the visor is securely closed. Wind noise is inherent in helmet design, but excessive noise might indicate an improper fit or a damaged seal.

3. Visor Fogging

Fogging can occur in cold or humid conditions. Ensure the ventilation system is open to promote airflow. Anti-fog treatments or pinlock visors (if compatible) can help mitigate this issue.
