Introduction
The Emerson CKS1900 SmartSet Dual Alarm Clock Radio is designed for effortless time management and personalized wake-up experiences. Featuring patented SmartSet technology, the clock automatically sets itself to the correct year, month, date, day, and time upon initial setup and after power interruptions. Controls and Display

The control buttons are located on the top panel of the unit, and the display is on the front. Familiarize yourself with the following:
- TIME ZONE / ON/OFF Button: Used to select time zone and power the unit on/off.
- CLOCK SET / BAND Button: Used to set the clock and switch between AM/FM radio bands.
- AL1 / STO. Button: Used to set Alarm 1 and store radio presets.
- AL2 / MEM. Button: Used to set Alarm 2 and recall radio presets.
- SNOOZE / DIMMER / SLEEP Button: Activates snooze, adjusts display brightness, and sets the sleep timer.
- TUNE - / TUNE + Buttons: Used to tune radio frequencies or adjust time/date settings.
- VOL - / VOL + Buttons: Used to adjust the volume level.

Setup
1. Power Connection
Connect the AC power adapter to the DC IN jack on the back of the unit, then plug the adapter into a standard AC wall outlet (120V AC, 60Hz). The unit will power on automatically.
2. Battery Backup Installation
For continuous timekeeping during power outages, install the included CR2 battery into the battery compartment on the bottom of the unit. Ensure correct polarity (+ and -) as indicated inside the compartment. The battery backup maintains time and alarm settings but will not power the display or radio.
3. Initial Time Setting (SmartSet Technology)
Upon first connection to power, the SmartSet technology automatically sets the clock to the correct year, month, date, day, and time for the Eastern Time Zone (EST). If you are in a different time zone, you will need to adjust it manually.
- Press and hold the TIME ZONE button. The current time zone will flash on the display.
- While holding TIME ZONE, press the TUNE + or TUNE - button to cycle through the time zones: AST (Atlantic), EST (Eastern), CST (Central), MST (Mountain), PST (Pacific), AKT (Alaska), HST (Hawaii).
- Release the TIME ZONE button when your desired time zone is displayed. The clock will automatically adjust.
4. Daylight Saving Time (DST) Adjustment
The clock automatically adjusts for Daylight Saving Time. To manually override or enable/disable this feature:
- Press and hold the TIME ZONE button.
- While holding TIME ZONE, press the AL1 button to toggle DST ON or OFF. "DST ON" or "DST OFF" will appear on the display.
- Release the TIME ZONE button.
Operating Instructions
Setting the Clock Manually
While the SmartSet feature handles initial time, you can manually adjust the time if needed:
- Press and hold the CLOCK SET button. The time will begin to flash.
- While holding CLOCK SET, press the TUNE + or TUNE - button to adjust the hour. Pay attention to the AM/PM indicator.
- Press CLOCK SET again to set the minutes. The minutes will flash.
- While holding CLOCK SET, press the TUNE + or TUNE - button to adjust the minutes.
- Release the CLOCK SET button to save the time.
Setting Alarms (AL1 and AL2)
The unit features two independent alarms. The process is similar for both.
- Press and hold the AL1 (for Alarm 1) or AL2 (for Alarm 2) button. The alarm time will flash.
- While holding the alarm button, press TUNE + or TUNE - to adjust the alarm hour. Observe the AM/PM indicator.
- Press the alarm button again to set the minutes. The minutes will flash.
- While holding the alarm button, press TUNE + or TUNE - to adjust the alarm minutes.
- Press the alarm button again to select the alarm source: "BUZ" (buzzer) or "RAD" (radio).
- Press the alarm button again to select the alarm mode: "7 DAYS" (daily), "WEEKDAYS" (Monday-Friday), or "WEEKENDS" (Saturday-Sunday).
- Release the alarm button to save the settings. The corresponding alarm indicator (AL1 or AL2) will light up on the display.
To turn an alarm off, press the corresponding AL1 or AL2 button once. The alarm indicator will turn off.
Snooze Function

When an alarm sounds, press the large SNOOZE button on top of the unit to temporarily silence the alarm for approximately 9 minutes. The alarm will sound again after the snooze period.
Sleep Timer
The sleep timer allows you to fall asleep to the radio, which will automatically turn off after a set period.
- While the radio is playing, press the SLEEP button (part of the SNOOZE/DIMMER/SLEEP button). The display will show the sleep timer duration (e.g., "90").
- Press the SLEEP button repeatedly to cycle through available sleep times (90, 60, 30, 15 minutes, or OFF).
- The radio will play for the selected duration and then automatically turn off.
Radio Operation (AM/FM)
To listen to the radio:
- Press the ON/OFF button to turn on the radio.
- Press the BAND button to switch between AM and FM bands.
- Use the TUNE + or TUNE - buttons to manually tune to a desired frequency. Press and hold these buttons to auto-scan for the next available station.
- Adjust the volume using the VOL + or VOL - buttons.
Setting Radio Presets:
- Tune to the desired station.
- Press and hold the AL1 / STO. button until "P 01" (or the next available preset number) flashes on the display.
- Use the TUNE + or TUNE - buttons to select the desired preset number (P01-P10 for each band).
- Press the AL1 / STO. button again to confirm and save the station.
Recalling Radio Presets:
- Press the AL2 / MEM. button repeatedly to cycle through your saved preset stations.

Adjusting Display Brightness (Dimmer)

To adjust the brightness of the LED display:
- Press the DIMMER button (part of the SNOOZE/DIMMER/SLEEP button) repeatedly to cycle through the 4 brightness levels: High, Medium, Medium Low, and Low.
- Select the level that is most comfortable for your viewing environment.
Maintenance
- Cleaning: Wipe the unit with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
- Battery Replacement: If the clock loses time during power outages, the CR2 backup battery may need replacement. Follow the installation steps in the "Setup" section.
- Antenna: For optimal FM reception, extend the built-in FM wire antenna fully. For AM reception, rotate the unit for best signal.
Troubleshooting
