Setup and Installation
- Unpacking: Carefully remove the microwave oven and all packing materials from the carton. Check for any damage such as dents or a broken door. Do not install if damaged.
- Placement: Place the microwave oven on a flat, stable surface that can support its weight. Ensure there is adequate ventilation: at least 3 inches (7.5 cm) of space on the top, sides, and rear for proper airflow. Do not block air vents.
- Power Connection: Plug the power cord into a standard 3-prong, 120V, 60Hz grounded electrical outlet. Do not use an extension cord or adapter.
- Turntable Installation:
- Place the turntable ring inside the oven cavity.
- Place the glass turntable plate securely on top of the turntable ring. Ensure it sits properly on the center hub.
- Initial Test: Place a cup of water inside the oven and close the door. Set the microwave to high power for 1 minute. If the water heats up, the oven is operating correctly.
Operating Instructions
Basic Microwave Cooking
- Place food in a microwave-safe container on the glass turntable.
- Close the oven door securely.
- Press the "Time Cook" button.
- Enter the desired cooking time using the number pad.
- Press the "Power Level" button (optional, default is 100%). Use number pad to select power level (e.g., 7 for 70%).
- Press "Start" to begin cooking.
- The oven will beep when cooking is complete. Open the door and carefully remove the food.
Defrosting Food
The Amana RMS10DS features an Auto Defrost function.
- Place the frozen food on the turntable.
- Press the "Auto Defrost" button.
- Enter the weight of the food in pounds using the number pad.
- Press "Start". The oven will automatically calculate the defrosting time and power level.
- During defrosting, the oven may pause and prompt you to turn or separate the food for even defrosting.
Setting the Clock
- Press the "Clock" button.
- Enter the current time using the number pad (e.g., 1230 for 12:30).
- Press the "Clock" button again to confirm.
Maintenance and Cleaning
Regular cleaning and maintenance will ensure optimal performance and extend the life of your microwave oven.
Exterior Cleaning
- Wipe the exterior with a soft cloth and mild soap and water.
- Avoid abrasive cleaners or scouring pads, which can scratch the stainless steel finish.
- For stainless steel surfaces, use a specialized stainless steel cleaner for best results.
Interior Cleaning
- To remove odors and loosen dried-on food, place a bowl of water with lemon slices or vinegar inside the oven and microwave on high for 5-7 minutes.
- Wipe the interior with a soft, damp cloth.
- Clean the door seals and sealing surfaces regularly to prevent food residue buildup.
Turntable Care
- The glass turntable and turntable ring can be removed for cleaning.
- Wash them in warm, soapy water or in the dishwasher.
- Ensure they are completely dry before placing them back in the oven.
