This video demonstrates the pairing process with an iGS320 bike computer, attaching the silicon case, and mounting the SPD70 sensor to the front wheel hub of a bicycle. It visually guides you through activating the sensor and ensuring proper fit.

5. Operation

The SPD70 Speed Sensor operates automatically once paired and activated. It transmits speed data to your connected device (bike computer, smartphone app, or smartwatch) as soon as the wheel begins to rotate.

  • Automatic Activation: The sensor activates upon motion (wheel rotation) after battery installation.
  • Automatic Sleep: If the device is not in use for 2 minutes, it will automatically enter sleep mode to conserve battery.
  • Bluetooth Auto-Off: If the sensor is started but not connected to a Bluetooth device within 5 minutes, its Bluetooth transmission will automatically turn off. Motion will re-activate it.
  • Dual Protocol: The sensor supports both Bluetooth 4.0 and ANT+ for versatile connectivity.

6. Maintenance

To ensure optimal performance and longevity of your SPD70 Speed Sensor:

  • Cleaning: Wipe the sensor with a soft, damp cloth as needed. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
  • Water Resistance: The sensor is IPX7 waterproof, meaning it can withstand immersion in 1 meter of water for up to 30 minutes. It is resistant to rain and splashes, but prolonged submersion is not recommended.
  • Battery Replacement: The SPD70 uses a CR2032 button battery. When the battery is low, replace it promptly to maintain accurate data transmission. The typical working time is about 260 hours.
  • Storage: Store the sensor in a cool, dry place when not in use.

7. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your SPD70 Speed Sensor, consider the following:

  • No Speed Data:
    • Ensure the sensor is properly installed on the wheel hub and is rotating freely.
    • Check the battery. Replace the CR2032 battery if it is low or depleted.
    • Verify that the sensor is correctly paired with your bike computer or application. Try re-pairing if necessary.
    • Ensure your receiving device (bike computer, phone) is within range and its Bluetooth/ANT+ is enabled.
  • Intermittent Connection:
    • Check for potential interference from other electronic devices.
    • Ensure the sensor is securely mounted and not shifting during rides.
    • Confirm the battery level.
  • Incorrect Speed Readings:
    • Ensure your bike computer or app has the correct wheel circumference settings, if applicable.
    • Verify the sensor is firmly attached and not slipping on the hub.
