3. Setup

Follow these steps to set up your Hercules DJControl Starlight:

  1. Software Installation: Download and install Serato DJ Lite from the official Serato website (serato.com/dj/lite) on your compatible computer (Windows or macOS).
  2. Connect USB Cable: Connect the included USB cable to the USB port on the DJControl Starlight and to an available USB port on your computer. The controller will power on automatically.
  3. Audio Output:
    • Connect your headphones to the 3.5mm headphone jack on the side of the controller for pre-listening.
    • Connect your speakers to your computer's audio output. The DJControl Starlight uses your computer's main audio output for the master sound.
  4. Launch Serato DJ Lite: Open Serato DJ Lite. The software should automatically detect the DJControl Starlight.
  5. Load Tracks: Use the software to load audio tracks onto Deck 1 and Deck 2.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Jog Wheels

  • Scratch Mode (Vinyl): Press the VINYL button to activate scratch mode. In this mode, touching the top of the jog wheel allows for scratching, while touching the side adjusts the pitch.
  • Pitch Bend: In normal mode (VINYL off), touching the side of the jog wheel allows for temporary pitch adjustments (pitch bend).
  • Track Navigation: Rotate the jog wheel without touching the top surface to navigate through a track.

Each deck features four performance pads with multiple modes:

  • Hot Cue: Assign and trigger cue points within your track.
  • Loop: Create and activate loops of various lengths.
  • FX: Apply effects to your tracks.
  • Sampler: Trigger pre-loaded samples.

Use the dedicated mode buttons (HOT CUE, LOOP, FX, SAMPLER) to switch between these functions for each set of pads.

4.3 Mixer Controls

  • Volume Knobs: Adjust the individual volume for Deck 1 and Deck 2.
  • Bass/Filter Knobs: Control the bass frequencies or apply a filter effect to each deck.
  • Crossfader: Blend between Deck 1 and Deck 2.
  • Master Volume: Adjust the overall output volume.
  • Headphones Volume: Control the volume for your headphones.
  • Cue/Master Knob: Adjust the balance between the master output and the cued track in your headphones.

4.4 Transport Controls

  • Play/Pause (►/❚❚): Starts or pauses track playback.
  • Cue: Sets a temporary cue point or returns to the last cue point.
  • Sync: Automatically matches the tempo and beat grid of one track to another.
  • Tempo Faders: Manually adjust the playback speed (BPM) of each track.

4.5 RGB Backlighting

The base of the DJControl Starlight features RGB backlighting. These lights can be controlled and customized through the Serato DJ Lite software, offering various colors and strobe effects to enhance your performance environment.

5. Maintenance

Proper care ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your DJControl Starlight.

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry, lint-free cloth to clean the controller's surface. Avoid abrasive cleaners, solvents, or strong chemicals.
