3. Setup
3.1 Measuring for Proper Fit
A properly fitting helmet is crucial for comfort, safety, and performance. Follow these steps to measure your head and determine the correct helmet size:
- Wrap a soft, flexible measuring tape horizontally around your head, approximately 1 inch (2.5 cm) above your eyebrows and at the top of your ears.
- Pull the tape snugly, ensuring it is level from front to back.
- Read the measurement where the tape overlaps. Repeat for accuracy.
- Compare your measurement to the sizing chart below to find your recommended helmet size.
Video 1: Sena Cycling Helmet Size Guide. This video demonstrates how to measure your head for the correct helmet size and how to adjust the helmet for a secure fit.
Sizing Guide
| Size | Head Circumference (cm) | Head Circumference (in) |
|---|---|---|
| S | 50 - 55 CM | 19.6 - 21.8 IN |
| M | 55 - 59 CM | 21.8 - 23.4 IN |
| L | 59 - 63 CM | 23.4 - 24.8 IN |
3.2 Adjusting the Helmet
Once you have selected the correct size, adjust the helmet for a secure and comfortable fit:
- Dial Adjustment: Before placing the helmet on your head, fully open the dial adjustment located at the back of the helmet. This allows the helmet shell to sit properly on your head.
- Positioning: Place the helmet on your head so it sits level, covering your forehead without tilting too far forward or backward.
- Tighten Dial: Gradually tighten the dial adjustment until the helmet feels snug but comfortable. It should not be excessively tight, but firm enough to prevent significant movement.
- Chin Strap: Buckle the chin strap. Adjust the strap so it is snug, allowing enough space for you to move your mouth or fit approximately three fingers between your chin and the strap.
- Side Straps: Adjust the buckles on the side straps so they form a 'V' shape just below your ears, lying flat against your head. The straps should not touch your ears.
