3. Setup

3.1 Charging Base Placement

Place the charging base on a hard, level surface against a wall. Ensure there is at least 1 meter (3 feet) of clear space in front of the base and 0.5 meters (1.5 feet) on each side. Plug the power cord into the charging base and then into a wall outlet.

3.2 Initial Charge

Place the robot onto the charging base, ensuring the metal contacts on the robot align with those on the base. The battery indicator light will show charging status. Allow the robot to fully charge before its first use, which may take up to 2-3 hours. A full charge provides approximately 120 minutes of cleaning time.

3.3 Connecting to the Neato App

For full functionality, download the Neato app from your device's app store. Follow the in-app instructions to connect your robot to your home Wi-Fi network. This enables remote control, scheduling, and access to advanced features.

4.3 Virtual No-Go Lines and Zones

Using the Neato app, you can easily set up virtual "No-Go" lines or define specific zones that the robot should avoid. This is useful for protecting delicate items, pet bowls, or areas you don't want cleaned.

5. Maintenance

Regular maintenance ensures your Neato D7 BotVac operates efficiently.

5.1 Emptying the Dirt Bin

Empty the dirt bin after each cleaning cycle or when the 'bin full' indicator illuminates. To access, lift the top cover of the robot and remove the bin. Dispose of debris and reinsert the bin until it clicks into place.

5.2 Cleaning the Filter

The Neato D7 uses a HEPA-type filter. Tap the filter against a trash can to remove loose debris. For a more thorough clean, use a small brush or a vacuum cleaner with a hose attachment. Replace the filter every 1-2 months, depending on usage.

5.3 Cleaning Brushes

Periodically remove the main brush and side brush to clear tangled hair or debris. Use scissors to cut away hair wrapped around the main brush. Ensure brushes spin freely after cleaning.

5.4 Cleaning Sensors and Charging Contacts

Wipe the robot's sensors (cliff sensors, wall sensors) and charging contacts on both the robot and the base with a clean, dry cloth. This prevents errors and ensures proper charging.

6. Troubleshooting

If your Neato D7 BotVac encounters an issue, consult the following common solutions:

  • Robot not charging: Ensure the charging base is plugged in and the robot is properly aligned with the charging contacts. Clean the contacts on both the robot and the base.
  • Robot not starting: Check if the robot is fully charged. Ensure the dirt bin is correctly inserted and the lid is closed.
  • Error messages: Refer to the Neato app for specific error codes and troubleshooting steps. Common errors relate to brushes, wheels, or sensors being obstructed.
  • Poor cleaning performance: Empty the dirt bin, clean or replace the filter, and clean the main and side brushes.
  • Robot getting stuck: Clear obstacles from the cleaning path. Use No-Go lines in the app to prevent the robot from entering problematic areas.
  • Wi-Fi connectivity issues: Ensure your Wi-Fi network is active and the robot is within range. Restart your router and the robot.

For persistent issues, refer to the Neato Robotics support website or contact customer service.
