- Close the steam valve and turn the control knob back to the "ON" position. The machine is now primed.
Operating Instructions
1. Making Espresso:
- Pre-heating: Turn the machine on and wait for the "READY" light. For best results, run a blank shot of hot water through the portafilter and cup to pre-heat them.
- Prepare the Portafilter:
- Insert the desired filter basket (single or double shot) into the portafilter.
- Add finely ground espresso coffee to the filter basket. For a single shot, use approximately 7g; for a double, use 14g.
- Level the coffee grounds and tamp firmly with the tamper.
- Wipe any excess coffee from the rim of the portafilter.
- Attach Portafilter: Insert the portafilter into the group head and rotate it firmly to the right until it is securely locked.
- Brew Espresso: Place one or two cups under the spouts. Turn the control knob to the espresso symbol. Coffee will begin to dispense.
- Stop Brewing: Once the desired amount of espresso is brewed, turn the control knob back to the "ON" position to stop the flow.
- Remove Portafilter: Carefully remove the portafilter by rotating it to the left. Dispose of the used coffee grounds.
2. Using E.S.E. Pods:
- Insert the E.S.E. pod filter basket into the portafilter.
- Place an E.S.E. pod into the filter basket, ensuring it is centered.
- Follow steps 3-6 from "Making Espresso" above.
3. Frothing Milk for Cappuccino/Latte:
- Prepare Milk: Fill a pitcher with cold milk (dairy or non-dairy) to about one-third full.
- Activate Steam: Turn the control knob to the steam symbol. Wait for the "READY" light to illuminate, indicating the machine has reached steaming temperature.
- Purge Steam Wand: Briefly open the steam valve to release any condensed water. Close the valve.
- Froth Milk: Immerse the steam wand tip just below the surface of the milk. Open the steam valve. Move the pitcher up and down gently to create froth.
- Heat Milk: Once desired froth is achieved, immerse the wand deeper into the milk to heat it to the desired temperature.
- Stop Steaming: Close the steam valve and turn the control knob back to the "ON" position.
- Clean Steam Wand: Immediately wipe the steam wand with a damp cloth to prevent milk residue from drying. Briefly open the steam valve again to clear any internal milk.
Maintenance
1. Daily Cleaning:
- Portafilter and Filter Baskets: After each use, remove and rinse under running water.
- Drip Tray: Empty and clean the drip tray and grid daily.
- Steam Wand: Always wipe immediately after frothing.
- Machine Body: Wipe with a damp cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners.
2. Descaling:
Regular descaling is crucial to maintain machine performance and longevity. The frequency depends on water hardness and usage. Use a De'Longhi descaler solution.
- Empty the water tank and fill it with the descaling solution mixed with water according to the descaler instructions.
- Place a large container under the portafilter and steam wand.
- Turn the machine on and wait for the "READY" light.
- Turn the control knob to the espresso symbol and let half of the solution flow through the group head.
- Turn the control knob to the steam symbol and open the steam valve to let the remaining solution flow through the steam wand.
- Turn the machine off and let it sit for 10-15 minutes.
- Rinse the water tank and fill it with fresh water. Repeat the entire process (steps 3-6) twice with fresh water to thoroughly rinse the machine.
3. Water Filter Replacement:
If your model includes a water filter, replace it approximately every two months or as indicated by the filter manufacturer's instructions to ensure optimal water quality and reduce descaling frequency.
