5. Setup

5.1 Placement and Mounting

The TAVOR-8-SUB offers versatile placement options:

  • Floor Mount: Place the subwoofer on a stable, level surface. Ensure it is not obstructing pathways or ventilation.
  • Wall Mount: The unit can be mounted on a wall. Use appropriate mounting hardware (not always included, check package contents) and ensure the wall structure can support the subwoofer's weight (8 pounds). Follow local building codes and safety guidelines for wall mounting.
  • Next to Wall: The design allows for discreet placement next to a wall, potentially hiding the control panel for a cleaner aesthetic.

5.2 Connectivity

The TAVOR-8-SUB uses RCA connectivity for audio input.

  1. Locate the RCA input jacks on the rear panel of the subwoofer (refer to Figure 2).
  2. Connect an RCA audio cable from the subwoofer output of your audio receiver or amplifier to the RCA input on the TAVOR-8-SUB.

5.3 Power Connection

  1. Ensure the subwoofer's power switch is in the OFF position.
  2. Connect the provided power cord to the AC power inlet on the rear panel of the subwoofer.
  3. Plug the other end of the power cord into a suitable electrical outlet.

6. Operating Instructions

6.1 Initial Power-Up and Basic Operation

  1. After connecting all cables, switch the power button on the rear panel to the ON position.
  2. Start with the VOLUME knob set to its minimum position.
  3. Begin playing audio through your main audio system.
  4. Slowly increase the VOLUME knob on the TAVOR-8-SUB until the desired bass level is achieved.

6.2 Adjusting Crossover Frequency

The TAVOR-8-SUB features an adjustable crossover frequency to seamlessly integrate with your main speakers.

  • The CROSSOVER knob allows you to set the upper frequency limit at which the subwoofer will operate.
  • If your main speakers are small, set the crossover frequency higher (e.g., 80-100 Hz) to allow the subwoofer to handle more of the mid-bass frequencies.
  • If your main speakers are larger and can reproduce lower frequencies, set the crossover frequency lower (e.g., 50-60 Hz).
  • Experiment with the setting to find the best blend between the subwoofer and your main speakers, aiming for a smooth transition without a noticeable gap or overlap in sound.

6.3 Phase Control

The phase switch (0°/180°) helps to ensure that the subwoofer's sound waves are in sync with your main speakers, preventing cancellation or reinforcement issues at the crossover point.

  • Listen to music with strong bass content.
  • Toggle the phase switch between 0° and 180°.
  • Select the position that results in the most impactful and coherent bass response.

6.4 Auto Standby Feature

The TAVOR-8-SUB includes an auto standby feature. If no audio signal is detected for a period, the subwoofer will automatically enter a low-power standby mode. It will automatically power on when an audio signal is detected again.

6.5 Bass Boost Feature

This subwoofer includes a Bass Boost feature to enhance low-frequency output. Refer to the rear panel controls (Figure 2) for the specific switch or knob to activate and adjust this feature, if available as a user-adjustable control.

7. Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Regularly wipe the exterior of the subwoofer with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, waxes, or solvents.
  • Ventilation: Ensure that the ventilation openings remain clear of dust and debris.
  • Inspection: Periodically check the power cord and audio cables for any signs of damage. Replace damaged cables immediately.
