4. Important Safety Information
Please read and understand all safety instructions before installation and use. Failure to follow these instructions may result in fire, electric shock, or other hazards.
- Smoke detectors have a maximum lifespan of 10 years after activation. Replace your detectors every 10 years to ensure optimal performance.
- Do not paint the smoke detector. Paint can block the sensor openings and prevent the detector from functioning properly.
- Do not use cleaning products on the smoke detector. Clean only as instructed in the Maintenance section.
- Ensure the battery is correctly inserted before mounting the detector. The safety mechanism prevents mounting without a battery.
- Test the smoke detector regularly as described in the Operating section.
5. Setup and Installation
Proper placement and installation are crucial for the effective operation of your smoke detector.
5.1 Choosing a Location
- Install at least one smoke detector on each floor of your home.
- Place detectors along escape routes, in hallways, and near staircases.
- Since smoke rises, always mount the smoke detector on the ceiling.
- Avoid placing detectors near ventilation systems, air conditioners, or in areas with high humidity (e.g., bathrooms, kitchens) to prevent false alarms.
- Keep detectors at least 1 meter (3 feet) away from light fixtures or decorative objects.
5.2 Mounting the Detector
- Remove the mounting plate from the smoke detector by twisting it counter-clockwise.
- Mark the drilling points on the ceiling using the mounting plate as a template.
- Drill holes at the marked points and insert the wall plugs.
- Secure the mounting plate to the ceiling using the provided screws.
- Insert the included lithium metal battery into the smoke detector, ensuring correct polarity. The detector will emit a short beep to indicate it's powered on.
- Attach the smoke detector to the mounted plate by aligning the detector with the plate and twisting it clockwise until it clicks into place. The safety mechanism ensures the detector can only be mounted with the battery inserted.
- Perform an initial test as described in the "Operating" section to confirm proper installation.

6. Operating the Smoke Detector
6.1 Normal Operation
Once installed with a functional battery, the smoke detector is continuously monitoring for smoke. It will emit a loud 85 dB alarm if smoke is detected.
6.2 Testing the Detector
It is crucial to test your smoke detector regularly to ensure it is functioning correctly. Test the detector at least once a month.
- Press and hold the test button located on the center of the smoke detector.
- The alarm will sound loudly (85 dB) for a few seconds. This indicates that the alarm and battery are working.
- Release the button. The alarm will stop.

6.3 Low Battery Indication
The smoke detector will emit a short beep at regular intervals (approximately every 30-60 seconds) when the battery is low and needs to be replaced. Replace the battery immediately upon hearing this signal.
6.4 Silent Mode (Hush Function)
If a false alarm occurs (e.g., from cooking fumes), you can temporarily silence the alarm by pressing the test/hush button. The alarm will be silenced for approximately 10 minutes, after which it will reset to normal operation. If smoke is still present, the alarm will sound again.
7. Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and reliability of your smoke detector.
7.1 Cleaning
Dust and dirt can affect the detector's performance. Follow these cleaning guidelines:
- Monthly: Gently wipe the exterior of the smoke detector with a slightly damp cloth.
- Bi-annually: Carefully vacuum the vents and openings of the smoke detector using a soft brush attachment to remove accumulated dust.
- Important: Never use cleaning agents, solvents, or paint on the smoke detector.
7.2 Battery Replacement
The included battery has a lifespan of approximately 5 years. Replace the battery immediately when the low battery warning sounds.
- Twist the smoke detector counter-clockwise to remove it from its mounting plate.
- Remove the old battery and dispose of it according to local regulations.
- Insert a new lithium metal battery (CR123A or equivalent) ensuring correct polarity.
- Reattach the smoke detector to the mounting plate by twisting it clockwise until it clicks.
- Test the detector immediately after replacing the battery.
8. Troubleshooting
If you experience issues with your smoke detector, refer to the table below for common problems and solutions.
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Detector does not sound during test. | Dead or low battery; incorrect battery installation; faulty unit. | Replace battery; check battery polarity; if problem persists, replace unit. |
| Detector chirps periodically. | Low battery. | Replace battery immediately. |
| False alarms occur frequently. | Detector placed too close to kitchen/bathroom; dust accumulation; high humidity. | Relocate detector; clean detector as per maintenance section; use hush function for temporary silencing. |
| Detector cannot be mounted. | Battery not inserted. | Insert battery. The safety mechanism prevents mounting without a battery. |
