2. Safety Information

  • Installation must be performed by a qualified electrician in accordance with local wiring regulations.
  • Disconnect power at the circuit breaker before installation or servicing.
  • Do not exceed the maximum load capacity of 1200W (resistive load) or 300W (inductive load).
  • Ensure the device is securely mounted to prevent accidental falls.
  • The IP65 rating provides protection against water jets from any direction, but the device should not be submerged in water.
  • Keep out of reach of children.

3. Product Overview

The Maclean MCE201W features a passive infrared (PIR) sensor that detects heat emitted by moving objects. It includes adjustable settings for light sensitivity (LUX) and illumination duration (TIME).

4. Setup and Installation

The MCE201W motion detector can be mounted on a wall or ceiling. Ensure the mounting surface is stable and can support the device.

  1. Preparation: Disconnect the main power supply before starting any electrical work.
  2. Mounting: Use the provided mounting accessories to securely attach the base of the detector to your desired location. The device is designed for both ceiling and wall mounting.
  3. Wiring: Connect the power supply wires to the appropriate terminals inside the detector's wiring compartment. Refer to the wiring diagram on the product or in the detailed instructions provided with the packaging. Ensure all connections are secure.
  4. Sensor Head Adjustment: Once mounted and wired, adjust the sensor head to cover the desired detection area. The sensor offers a 180° detection angle and a range of up to 12 meters.
  5. Power On: Restore power to the circuit. The detector will enter a warm-up period (typically 30-60 seconds) during which it may activate randomly.

5. Operating Instructions

The Maclean MCE201W features two adjustable knobs for customization:

  • LUX Knob (Light Sensitivity): This knob controls the ambient light level at which the sensor will activate.
    • Rotate towards the 'moon' symbol (3 lux) for activation only in dark conditions.
    • Rotate towards the 'sun' symbol (2000 lux) for activation in both day and night conditions.
  • TIME Knob (Illumination Duration): This knob sets how long the connected light or appliance remains on after motion is detected.
    • Adjustable from approximately 10 seconds to 15 minutes.
    • Once motion is no longer detected, the timer will count down, and the light will turn off. If motion is detected again during the countdown, the timer will reset.

Day and Night Operation: The integrated twilight sensor allows the detector to function effectively both during the day and at night. By adjusting the LUX knob, you can determine if the sensor should activate only when it's dark or at any time of day.

6. Maintenance

The Maclean MCE201W motion detector requires minimal maintenance. To ensure optimal performance:

  • Regularly clean the sensor lens with a soft, dry cloth to remove dust or dirt that may obstruct detection. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents.
  • Periodically check the mounting for security, especially if installed outdoors.
  • Do not attempt to open or repair the device yourself. Refer to qualified personnel for any repairs.

7. Troubleshooting

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
Light does not turn on when motion is detected.
  • No power supply.
  • LUX setting too low (set for dark, but it's bright).
  • Sensor obstructed.
  • Wiring error.
  • Check power connection.
  • Adjust LUX knob towards 'sun' symbol.
  • Clear any obstructions from the sensor lens.
  • Verify wiring connections.
Light stays on constantly.
  • Continuous motion in detection area.
  • TIME setting too long.
  • Wiring error.
  • Sensor malfunction.
  • Ensure no constant motion or heat sources are in the detection zone.
  • Adjust TIME knob to a shorter duration.
  • Verify wiring connections.
  • If problem persists, contact support.
Detection range is poor.
  • Incorrect sensor angle.
  • Obstructions.
  • Temperature fluctuations.
  • Adjust sensor head angle.
  • Remove obstructions.
  • Avoid placing near heat sources or air conditioning vents.
