BWT Soft Filtered Water Extra Filter Cartridges User Manual

Model: soft_extra_kartuschen_parent

1. Introduction

The BWT Soft Filtered Water Extra cartridges are designed to enhance your tap water by reducing hardness and improving taste. These cartridges are specifically formulated for areas with very hard water, offering extra protection against limescale for your household appliances.

Each cartridge effectively reduces water hardness, heavy metals such as lead and copper, and substances like chlorine that can impair odor and taste. With a capacity of approximately 120 liters or a lifespan of 4 weeks, these cartridges provide a convenient solution for filtered water.

BWT filter cartridges are compatible with BWT and Brita Maxtra (excluding Maxtra+) table water filter jugs, as well as other compatible systems.

2. Setup and Installation

  1. Preparation: Remove the new filter cartridge from its packaging.
  2. Rinsing: Submerge the cartridge completely in cold tap water for approximately 5 minutes. This helps to remove any air bubbles and prepare the filter material.
  3. Insertion: Insert the prepared cartridge firmly into the funnel of your compatible water filter jug. Ensure it is seated correctly to prevent unfiltered water from bypassing the filter.
  4. Initial Filtration: Fill the jug with tap water and allow it to filter through. Discard the first two filtered fills. This primes the filter and removes any loose carbon particles.
  5. Ready for Use: Your BWT filter cartridge is now ready to provide filtered water.

3. Operating Instructions

Using your BWT filter cartridge is straightforward:

  1. Fill the Jug: Pour cold tap water into the top section (funnel) of your water filter jug.
  2. Filter Process: Allow the water to pass through the BWT filter cartridge into the main reservoir of the jug. This process may take a few minutes.
  3. Serve: Once filtered, the water is ready for consumption or use in appliances.

4. Maintenance and Replacement

To ensure optimal filtration performance and water quality, regular maintenance and timely cartridge replacement are crucial.

  • Cartridge Lifespan: Replace the BWT Soft Filtered Water Extra cartridge every 4 weeks or after filtering approximately 120 liters of water, whichever comes first.
  • Jug Cleaning: Regularly clean your water filter jug according to its manufacturer's instructions. This prevents the buildup of residue and maintains hygiene.
  • Storage: Store unused cartridges in their original, sealed packaging in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight.

5. Troubleshooting

  • Slow Filtration: If water filters slowly, ensure the cartridge is properly seated. If the issue persists, the cartridge may be nearing the end of its life or is clogged, requiring replacement.
  • Unusual Taste or Odor: If the filtered water develops an unusual taste or odor, replace the cartridge immediately. This indicates the filter media is exhausted.
  • Water Bypassing Filter: If water appears to be flowing around the cartridge rather than through it, remove and re-insert the cartridge, ensuring a tight seal in the jug's funnel.
  • Visible Particles: A few black carbon particles may appear in the first few fills after installation. This is normal and harmless. Discard these fills as per setup instructions. If particles persist, re-rinse the cartridge.
