Setup and Installation
1. Speaker Placement
Optimal placement of your SIB Evo 5.1 system is crucial for achieving the best sound experience. Consider the size of your room (100 sq ft to 540 sq ft recommended) and the primary listening position.
Satellite Speakers (SIB Evo)
The five SIB Evo satellite speakers can be placed in various configurations:
- Front Left/Right: Position these speakers equidistant from your main listening position and your display (TV/projector). They should form an equilateral triangle with the listener.
- Center: Place the center speaker directly above or below your display, ensuring it is aimed towards the listening area.
- Surround Left/Right: Position these speakers to the sides or slightly behind the main listening position, typically at ear level or slightly above.
The flexible base allows for placement on furniture or stands. For wall mounting, use appropriate hardware (not included unless specified) and ensure secure installation.

Subwoofer (Cub Evo)
The Cub Evo subwoofer handles low-frequency effects. Its placement can significantly impact bass performance. Experiment with different locations in your room, typically in a corner or along a wall, to find the best balance of bass response.

2. Connections
Ensure all components are powered off before making any connections.
- Satellite Speakers: Connect each SIB Evo satellite speaker to the corresponding speaker output on your AV receiver using appropriate speaker cables. Observe correct polarity (+ to + and - to -).
- Subwoofer: Connect the Cub Evo subwoofer to the LFE (Low-Frequency Effects) or Subwoofer output of your AV receiver using an RCA cable.
- Power: Connect the power cord(s) to the subwoofer and then to a suitable AC power outlet.

Operating Instructions
1. Initial Power On
After all connections are made, power on your AV receiver first, then the Cub Evo subwoofer. The subwoofer typically has an "Auto" power mode that will activate it when an audio signal is detected.
2. Subwoofer Controls (Cub Evo)
Refer to Figure 5 for the location of these controls:
- Volume: Adjusts the output level of the subwoofer. Start with a moderate setting and fine-tune to blend with your satellite speakers.
- Crossover: This knob sets the upper frequency limit for the subwoofer. It determines where the subwoofer takes over from your main speakers. A common starting point is around 80-100Hz, but adjust based on your satellite speakers' capabilities and room acoustics.
- Phase (0°/180°): This switch helps integrate the subwoofer's output with your main speakers. Experiment with both settings to find the one that produces the most coherent and impactful bass at your listening position.
- Power Mode (Auto/On/Off):
- Auto: The subwoofer will automatically turn on when an audio signal is detected and enter standby mode after a period of inactivity.
- On: The subwoofer remains continuously powered on.
- Off: The subwoofer is powered off.
3. AV Receiver Setup
Consult your AV receiver's manual for specific instructions on speaker calibration. Generally, you will need to:
- Set speaker sizes (e.g., "Small" for SIB Evo satellites).
- Set crossover frequencies (typically 80-100Hz for the SIB Evo satellites).
- Adjust individual speaker levels to ensure a balanced sound field.
- Run any automatic room correction software your receiver may have.
Maintenance
To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Focal SIB Evo 5.1 system, follow these maintenance guidelines:
- Cleaning: Dust the speaker cabinets regularly with a soft, dry cloth. For stubborn marks, lightly dampen the cloth with water. Avoid using harsh chemicals, abrasive cleaners, or solvents, as these can damage the finish.
- Ventilation: Ensure that the subwoofer's ventilation openings are not blocked to prevent overheating.
- Environment: Avoid placing speakers in direct sunlight, near heat sources, or in areas with high humidity.
- Cables: Periodically check all cable connections for tightness and ensure they are not pinched or damaged.

If you encounter issues with your speaker system, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
