1. Introduction

This manual provides detailed instructions for the safe installation, operation, and maintenance of your Forte Lighting Harmon 1-Light Cord-Hung Pendant. Please read this manual thoroughly before beginning installation and retain it for future reference.

The Forte Lighting Harmon pendant is designed for indoor use, featuring a durable steel construction with a black finish and a glass shade. It is dimmable and uses a medium base (E26) bulb (not included).

2. What's in the Box

Verify that all components are present and undamaged before proceeding with installation.

  • Pendant Fixture (including cord and lamp holder)
  • Mounting Canopy
  • Glass Shade
  • Mounting Hardware Kit (screws, wire nuts, etc.)
  • Instruction Manual

3. Important Safety Information

WARNING: Risk of electric shock. Disconnect power at the fuse box or circuit breaker before installation or servicing.

  • Read all instructions carefully before installing.
  • All wiring must be in accordance with national and local electrical codes. If you are unsure about wiring, consult a qualified electrician.
  • Do not exceed the maximum wattage specified for the bulb (100 Watts).
  • Ensure the fixture is securely mounted to a structural element of the ceiling.
  • Do not connect this fixture to an ungrounded electrical system.
  • Wear safety glasses and gloves during installation.
  • Keep flammable materials away from the light fixture.

4. Setup and Installation

4.1. Before You Begin

  • Turn off power at the main circuit breaker or fuse box.
  • Gather necessary tools: screwdriver, wire strippers, electrical tape, ladder.
  • Unpack all components and inspect for damage.

4.2. Mounting the Fixture

  1. Attach Mounting Bracket: Secure the mounting bracket (usually included with the canopy) to the electrical junction box in the ceiling using the provided screws. Ensure it is firmly attached.
  2. Adjust Cord Length: Determine the desired hanging height for the pendant. The cord length can be adjusted by pushing the cord through the cord grip in the canopy. Once the desired length is achieved, tighten the cord grip to secure it.
  3. Wire Connections:
    • Connect the fixture's black wire to the house's black (hot) wire using a wire nut.
    • Connect the fixture's white wire to the house's white (neutral) wire using a wire nut.
    • Connect the fixture's ground wire (bare copper or green) to the house's ground wire and to the mounting bracket's ground screw.
    • Ensure all wire nuts are securely tightened and connections are insulated with electrical tape if necessary.
  4. Secure Canopy: Carefully push the wired connections into the junction box. Align the canopy with the mounting bracket and secure it to the ceiling using the canopy screws.
  5. Install Bulb: Screw a medium base (E26) bulb (max 100W) into the fixture's socket.
  6. Attach Shade: Carefully attach the glass shade to the fixture according to the design. This typically involves screwing it onto a threaded ring or securing it with retaining clips.

5. Operating Instructions

Once installed, restore power at the circuit breaker. The pendant light can be operated using a standard wall switch. If connected to a compatible dimmer switch, the light's brightness can be adjusted. Ensure the bulb used is also dimmable if you intend to use this feature.

6. Maintenance

6.1. Cleaning

To clean the fixture, ensure power is off. Wipe with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or solvents as they may damage the finish or glass. For the glass shade, a mild glass cleaner can be used, applied to a cloth, not directly to the fixture.

6.2. Bulb Replacement

Before replacing the bulb, turn off power to the fixture at the circuit breaker. Allow the bulb to cool completely. Unscrew the old bulb and screw in a new medium base (E26) bulb, ensuring it does not exceed the maximum 100-watt rating.

7. Troubleshooting

If you experience issues with your pendant light, refer to the table below for common problems and solutions.
