5. Setup & Installation
Follow these steps for proper installation of the uxcell M20x1.5 Cable Gland to ensure a secure and sealed connection.
- Prepare the Enclosure: Ensure the electrical enclosure or junction box has a pre-drilled hole with an M20x1.5 thread, or a suitable hole for the gland's thread diameter (approximately 20mm).

Figure 5.1: Visual guide for measuring hole diameter and cable diameter, and the gland installation process.
- Disassemble the Gland: Unscrew the sealing nut from the main body of the cable gland. The gland typically consists of a main body (with external thread), a sealing washer, a claw/clamping part, and a sealing nut.
- Insert Main Body: Insert the threaded main body of the cable gland into the prepared hole from the outside of the enclosure.
- Secure with Locknut: From the inside of the enclosure, screw on the locknut (if provided separately, otherwise the main body itself has a flange) to secure the gland to the enclosure. Tighten firmly by hand, then use a wrench for a final snug fit, but do not overtighten.
- Insert Cable: Pass the cable through the sealing nut, then through the clamping part, and finally through the main body of the gland. Ensure the cable is centered.
- Tighten Sealing Nut: Screw the sealing nut onto the main body of the gland. As you tighten, the internal clamping part will compress around the cable, creating a tight seal.

Figure 5.2: Comparison illustrating a properly sealed connection versus a water-resistant one, emphasizing the importance of correct tightening.
- Verify Seal: Ensure the cable is firmly gripped and there is no visible gap between the gland and the cable or the gland and the enclosure. The seal should be snug to provide waterproof and dust-proof protection.
6. Operating Instructions
Once properly installed, the uxcell M20x1.5 Cable Gland operates passively by maintaining a secure and sealed entry point for your cable. No further operational steps are required beyond ensuring the initial installation is correct and the gland remains securely tightened.
7. Maintenance
The uxcell M20x1.5 Cable Gland requires minimal maintenance. Regular inspection is recommended to ensure continued performance.
- Periodic Inspection: Periodically check the cable glands for any signs of loosening, cracking, or damage, especially in environments with vibration or extreme temperature fluctuations.
- Cleaning: If necessary, clean the exterior of the cable gland with a damp cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners that could degrade the plastic material.
- Re-tightening: If a gland appears loose, gently re-tighten the sealing nut to restore the seal. Do not overtighten.
- Replacement: If a cable gland shows significant wear, cracking, or can no longer maintain a proper seal, replace it immediately to ensure continued protection of your electrical system.
8. Troubleshooting
Here are some common issues and their solutions related to the uxcell M20x1.5 Cable Gland:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Water/Dust Ingress | Gland not tightened sufficiently; incorrect cable diameter; damaged sealing washer. | Ensure the sealing nut is tightened firmly. Verify cable diameter is within 6mm-12mm range. Inspect and replace if sealing washer is damaged. |
| Cable Slippage | Sealing nut not tight enough; cable diameter too small for the gland's range. | Tighten the sealing nut further. If cable is too thin, use a smaller gland size or a different sealing method. |
| Gland does not fit enclosure hole | Incorrect hole size or thread type in the enclosure. | Verify the enclosure hole is M20x1.5 or approximately 20mm diameter. Use the correct size drill bit and tap if creating a new hole. |
| Gland cracking during installation | Overtightening; material fatigue. | Avoid excessive force when tightening. Replace the damaged gland. |
