4. Setup and Installation

This section outlines the general steps for installing or replacing your CFS water filter cartridge. Always refer to your specific filter housing's manual for detailed instructions.

  1. Turn Off Water Supply: Locate and turn off the main water supply valve to your house or the specific valve leading to the filter housing.
  2. Depressurize System: Open a nearby cold water faucet to relieve pressure in the system. If your filter housing has a pressure release button, press it to release any remaining pressure.
  3. Unscrew Housing: Using a filter wrench, carefully unscrew the filter housing sump from the cap. Place the sump in a bucket to catch any residual water.
  4. Remove Old Cartridge: Remove the old filter cartridge and discard it according to local regulations.
  5. Clean Housing: Clean the inside of the filter housing sump with warm, soapy water and a non-abrasive brush. Rinse thoroughly. Inspect the O-ring for any cracks or damage; replace if necessary. Lubricate the O-ring with a silicone-based lubricant if recommended by your housing manufacturer.
  6. Insert New Cartridge: Remove the new CFS filter cartridge from its packaging. Ensure the cartridge is centered on the standpipe at the bottom of the housing.
  7. Reassemble Housing: Carefully screw the filter housing sump back onto the cap. Hand-tighten first, then use the filter wrench for an additional 1/4 to 1/2 turn to ensure a snug, leak-free seal. Do not overtighten.
  8. Restore Water Supply: Slowly turn on the main water supply valve. Check for leaks around the filter housing.
  9. Flush System: Open a cold water faucet downstream from the filter and let the water run for several minutes (e.g., 5-10 minutes) to flush out any air and fine carbon particles. The water may appear cloudy initially; this is normal and will clear.

5. Operating Instructions

Once installed, the CFS Carbon Block Water Filter Cartridge operates continuously as water flows through your whole house system. The filter works by passing water through its activated carbon block, which adsorbs chlorine, tastes, odors, and other contaminants, while the 5-micron rating physically removes sediment particles.

  • Ensure the filter housing is securely sealed and there are no leaks after installation.
  • The filter is designed for cold water applications only.
  • Maintain adequate water pressure in your system for optimal flow.

6. Maintenance

Regular maintenance, primarily cartridge replacement, is crucial for the continued effectiveness of your water filtration system.

Filter Cartridge Replacement

For optimal performance, the CFS Carbon Block Water Filter Cartridge should be replaced every 6 months. This interval may vary depending on your water quality and usage volume. A noticeable decrease in water flow or the return of undesirable tastes and odors indicates that the filter needs to be replaced sooner.

Follow the "Setup and Installation" steps (Section 4) to replace the old cartridge with a new one.
