Operating (Gameplay)
The objective of Monopoly Trickster Edition is to be the last player remaining with money and properties. Players move around the board, buying and trading properties, and developing them with houses and hotels. Rent is collected from opponents who land on owned properties. This edition introduces "Trickster Cards" and the "Handcuff" mechanic.
Game Flow
- Starting the Game: The player who rolls the highest number on two dice goes first. Play proceeds clockwise.
- Player Turn: On your turn, roll both dice and move your token clockwise the corresponding number of spaces.
- Landing on Spaces:
- Unowned Property: You may buy it for the price printed on the board. If you decline, the Banker auctions it to the highest bidder.
- Owned Property: Pay rent to the owner according to the Property Deed card.
- Chance or Community Chest: Draw the top card from the respective deck and follow its instructions.
- Trickster Space: Draw a Trickster Card. These cards allow you to perform actions that bend or break traditional Monopoly rules, such as stealing money, moving other players' tokens, or avoiding rent.
- Go: Passing or landing on "GO" earns you $200 from the Banker.
- Jail: Landing on "Go to Jail" sends you directly to Jail. You do not collect $200 for passing GO.
- Free Parking: No action required.
- Income Tax/Luxury Tax: Pay the specified amount to the Banker.
- Building: Once you own all properties in a color group, you can buy houses and hotels from the Banker and place them on your properties.
- Trading: Players can trade properties, money, and "Get Out of Jail Free" cards with each other at any time.
- Bankruptcy: If you owe more money than you can pay, even after selling houses/hotels and mortgaging properties, you are bankrupt and out of the game.
Trickster Mechanics
- Trickster Cards: When you land on a Trickster space, draw a card. These cards detail specific "tricks" you can attempt. Some tricks require a successful dice roll to execute.
- The Handcuff: If a player is caught attempting a trick and fails, or if a Trickster Card instructs it, that player may be "handcuffed" to the board. While handcuffed, a player cannot collect rent or participate in trades until they are freed (e.g., by rolling doubles, paying a fine, or another Trickster Card). The plastic handcuff unit is placed on the player's token to signify this state.
Maintenance
Proper care ensures the longevity of your Monopoly Trickster Edition game:
- Storage: Store all game components in the original box in a dry, cool place away from direct sunlight.
- Cleaning: Wipe the game board and plastic components with a dry, soft cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners or liquids.
- Handling: Handle cards and money carefully to prevent bending or tearing.
- Small Parts: Keep small components (tokens, houses, hotels, dice) away from young children to prevent choking hazards.
