2. Initial Setup
2.1 Initial Charging (Tough Solar)
Your GMW-B5000-1JF watch is equipped with Tough Solar technology, which converts light into electrical power. Before initial use, expose the watch face to bright light for several hours to ensure a full charge. Avoid blocking the watch face from light for extended periods to maintain optimal battery levels.
2.2 Time Synchronization
The watch supports two methods for accurate time synchronization:
- Multi-Band 6: The watch automatically receives time calibration signals from six transmission stations around the world to update its time settings. This typically occurs overnight.
- Bluetooth Connectivity: For areas outside Multi-Band 6 reception or for manual synchronization, the watch can connect to your smartphone via Bluetooth using the G-SHOCK Connected app.
2.3 Connecting to G-SHOCK Connected App
To link your watch with a smartphone:
- Download and install the G-SHOCK Connected app from your smartphone's app store.
- Enable Bluetooth on your smartphone.
- On the watch, press and hold the top-left button (usually labeled 'Adjust' or 'Connect') for approximately two seconds until the 'CONNECT' indicator appears and flashes.
- Open the G-SHOCK Connected app and follow the on-screen instructions to pair your watch.
- Once paired, the watch will automatically adjust its time based on your phone's time.

3.7 Power Saving Function

4. Maintenance and Care
4.1 Water Resistance (20 BAR)
Your GMW-B5000-1JF is water-resistant to 20 BAR (200 meters), suitable for showering, swimming, and shallow diving. Do not operate buttons while the watch is wet or submerged to prevent water intrusion. Avoid exposing the watch to hot water or steam, as this can compromise the seals.
4.2 Cleaning and Care
Wipe the watch regularly with a soft, dry cloth to remove dirt and moisture. For stubborn grime, use a soft brush and mild soap solution, then rinse thoroughly with fresh water and dry completely. Avoid using chemical cleaners or solvents, which can damage the watch's materials.
4.3 Battery (Solar Cell) Care
To ensure consistent operation, expose the watch to light regularly. Avoid storing the watch in dark places for extended periods. If the battery level drops significantly, functions may be disabled. A full charge can take several hours of direct sunlight.
4.4 Storage
When not in use, store the watch in a clean, dry place where it can receive some light to maintain its charge. Avoid extreme temperatures, direct sunlight for prolonged periods (when not charging), and strong magnetic fields.
5. Troubleshooting
5.1 Time Discrepancies
- No Time Signal Reception: Ensure the watch is placed near a window or outdoors overnight for Multi-Band 6 reception. Check the G-SHOCK Connected app for manual synchronization.
- Incorrect Home City Setting: Verify your Home City setting is correct, as this affects time calibration. Adjust via the G-SHOCK Connected app or watch settings.
5.2 Charging Issues
- Low Battery Indicator: If the display shows a low battery indicator (e.g., 'CHG' or 'LOW'), expose the watch to bright light immediately.
- Display Blank: The watch may be in power-saving mode due to darkness. Expose it to light or press any button to reactivate the display.
5.3 Bluetooth Connection Problems
- Unable to Pair: Ensure Bluetooth is enabled on your smartphone and the watch is in pairing mode. Restart both the watch (by holding button A) and the smartphone.
- Connection Drops: Keep the watch and smartphone in close proximity. Avoid obstacles that may interfere with the Bluetooth signal.
5.4 Buttons Not Responding
If buttons are unresponsive, check if the watch is in a specific mode that restricts button operation. If the issue persists, ensure the watch is adequately charged. A full reset may be necessary, but consult the G-SHOCK Connected app or Casio support before performing a hard reset.
