1. Safety Information

Please read these safety instructions carefully before operating your Panasonic SA-AK960 CD Stereo System. Keep this manual for future reference.

  • Power Source: Connect the unit only to an AC outlet of the specified voltage.
  • Ventilation: Ensure adequate ventilation. Do not block ventilation openings.

3. Setup

3.1 Speaker Connection

Connect the speaker wires to the corresponding terminals on the main unit and the speakers. Ensure correct polarity (+ to + and - to -) for optimal sound quality.

  1. Identify the positive (red) and negative (black) terminals on both the main unit and the speakers.
  2. Insert the red wire into the red terminal and the black wire into the black terminal for each speaker.
  3. Ensure all connections are secure to prevent intermittent sound.

3.2 Antenna Connection

For optimal radio reception, connect the supplied antennas.

  • FM Antenna: Connect the FM indoor antenna to the FM 75Ω coaxial terminal. Extend the wire for better reception.
  • AM Antenna: Assemble the AM loop antenna and connect its wires to the AM terminals. Position it away from the main unit for best results.

3.3 Power Connection

After all other connections are made, plug the AC power cord into the main unit and then into a wall outlet.

4. Operating Instructions

4.1 Basic Operation

  • Power On/Off: Press the POWER button on the main unit or remote control.
  • Volume Control: Use the VOLUME +/- buttons on the remote or the volume knob on the main unit.
  • Source Selection: Press the FUNCTION button repeatedly to cycle through CD, Tuner (FM/AM), and Tape.

4.2 CD Playback

  1. Press the FUNCTION button to select "CD".
  2. Press the OPEN/CLOSE button to open the CD tray.
  3. Place a CD with the label side up in the tray.
  4. Press OPEN/CLOSE again to close the tray.
  5. Press the PLAY button to start playback.
  6. Use SKIP buttons to change tracks and STOP or PAUSE for control.

4.3 Radio Tuning

  1. Press the FUNCTION button to select "TUNER".
  2. Press BAND to switch between FM and AM.
  3. Use the TUNING +/- buttons to manually tune to a station.
  4. Press and hold TUNING +/- for automatic scanning.
  5. To preset a station, tune to the desired frequency, then press MEMORY followed by a preset number button.

4.4 Cassette Tape Playback/Recording

  1. Press the FUNCTION button to select "TAPE".
  2. Press the OPEN/EJECT button to open the cassette deck.
  3. Insert a cassette tape.
  4. Press PLAY to start playback.
  5. To record, select the desired source (CD or Tuner), then press RECORD and PLAY simultaneously on the tape deck.

5. Maintenance

Proper maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your stereo system.

  • Cleaning the Unit: Wipe the exterior of the unit with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, waxes, or solvents.
  • CD Lens Cleaning: Use a commercially available CD lens cleaner disc periodically to maintain optimal CD playback.
  • Cassette Deck Maintenance: Clean the tape heads, pinch rollers, and capstans with a cotton swab lightly moistened with isopropyl alcohol after every 10-20 hours of use.
  • Storage: If storing the unit for an extended period, unplug it from the power outlet and cover it to protect from dust.
