Safety Information
Always prioritize safety when operating the generator. Failure to follow these instructions can result in serious injury or death.
- Carbon Monoxide Hazard: Generators produce carbon monoxide, a colorless, odorless, poisonous gas. Operate the generator outdoors in a well-ventilated area, far away from windows, doors, and vents. Never operate indoors, in a garage, or in any enclosed space.
- Fire Hazard: Gasoline is highly flammable. Refuel in a well-ventilated area with the engine off and cool. Do not smoke or allow open flames near the generator. Store fuel in approved containers away from ignition sources.
- Electrical Shock Hazard: Do not operate the generator in wet conditions. Ensure all electrical connections are secure and dry. Use only grounded extension cords. Never connect the generator directly to your home's electrical system without a transfer switch installed by a qualified electrician.
- Hot Surfaces: The generator's engine and muffler become very hot during operation and remain hot for some time after shutdown. Avoid touching hot surfaces to prevent burns.
- Children and Pets: Keep children and pets away from the generator, especially during operation.
Setup
Before first use, perform the following setup steps:
- Unpacking and Inspection: Carefully remove the generator from its packaging. Inspect for any shipping damage. Ensure all components listed in the packing list are present.
- Add Engine Oil:
- Place the generator on a level surface.
- Locate the oil fill cap/dipstick.
- Remove the cap and carefully add the recommended engine oil (e.g., 10W-30) up to the upper level mark on the dipstick. Do not overfill. Refer to specifications for oil capacity.
- Securely replace the oil fill cap.
- Add Fuel:
- Ensure the generator is off and cool.
- Use fresh, unleaded gasoline with an octane rating of 87 or higher.
- Open the fuel tank cap and slowly add fuel, leaving a small air gap at the top to allow for expansion. Do not overfill.
- Securely replace the fuel tank cap. Wipe up any spilled fuel immediately.
- Grounding: For safety, it is recommended to ground the generator. Connect a ground wire from the generator's ground terminal to a suitable earth ground rod.
Operating Instructions
Follow these steps to safely operate your Rockpals R2000i generator.

Figure 6: Rockpals R2000i Control Panel. This image displays the generator's control panel, showing the various outlets, switches, and indicator lights for operation and monitoring.
- Starting the Generator:
- Ensure the generator is on a level surface and all electrical loads are disconnected.
- Turn the fuel valve to the "ON" position.
- Set the engine switch to the "ON" position.
- If the engine is cold, pull the choke lever to the "CHOKE" position.
- Pull the recoil starter handle firmly and smoothly until the engine starts.
- Once the engine starts, slowly move the choke lever to the "RUN" position.
- Eco-Mode Operation:
The R2000i features an "ECO-Mode" switch. When activated, the generator automatically adjusts engine speed to match the load, improving fuel efficiency and reducing noise. For maximum fuel economy and quieter operation, engage the ECO-Mode when running light loads.
- Connecting Electrical Devices:
- Allow the generator to warm up for a few minutes after starting.
- Plug in your electrical devices to the appropriate AC outlets (120V) or DC outlets (12V, USB).
- Do not exceed the generator's rated running wattage (1800W) or peak wattage (2000W). Overloading will trip the overload protector.
- Parallel Operation:
The Rockpals R2000i is parallel-ready, allowing you to connect two R2000i units together to double the available wattage and amperage. This requires a Rockpals parallel cable (sold separately). Refer to the parallel kit instructions for detailed connection procedures.
- Shutting Down the Generator:
- Disconnect all electrical loads from the generator.
- Allow the generator to run for a few minutes without load to cool down.
- Turn the engine switch to the "OFF" position.
- Turn the fuel valve to the "OFF" position.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance is crucial for the longevity and optimal performance of your generator. Always ensure the generator is off and cool before performing any maintenance.

Figure 7: Rockpals R2000i Easy Maintenance Access. This image highlights the accessible maintenance points on the generator, including the spark plug, air filter, oil reservoir cap, and fuel drain access, indicating ease of service.
- Engine Oil Change:
Change the engine oil after the first 20 hours of operation, and then every 50-100 hours or annually, whichever comes first. Drain old oil when the engine is warm, then refill with new, recommended oil.
- Air Filter Cleaning/Replacement:
Inspect the air filter every 50 hours or more frequently in dusty conditions. Clean with warm, soapy water, rinse, dry thoroughly, and re-oil lightly if specified. Replace if damaged.
- Spark Plug Inspection/Replacement:
Inspect the spark plug every 100 hours. Clean carbon deposits and adjust the gap if necessary. Replace if worn or fouled.
- Fuel System Maintenance (Storage):
For long-term storage (over 30 days), drain the fuel tank and carburetor to prevent fuel degradation, which can cause starting issues. Alternatively, use a fuel stabilizer.
- General Cleaning:
Keep the generator clean and free of dirt and debris. Use a damp cloth to wipe down exterior surfaces. Do not use a pressure washer.
