It can operate standalone or integrate with MIDI keyboards and computer systems.

Key features include:

  • Analog Sound Engine: Features a monophonic analog audio path with two oscillators and a multimode filter for rich sound.
  • User-Friendly Interface: Designed for ease of use with 100 included presets and intuitive controls.
  • Integrated Performance Tools: Incorporates a 2-octave multi-touch keyboard, arpeggiator, and step sequencer.
  • Versatile Connectivity: Compatible with MIDI keyboards and computer systems.
  • Portable Power Options: Can be powered via battery or USB, and includes an editor application for advanced sound design and preset management on Mac/PC or iOS devices.

2. What's in the Box

Verify that all components are present in the packaging:

  • UNO Synth unit
  • MicroUSB cable
  • MIDI cable x 2
  • 4 AA batteries (pre-installed or included separately)

3. Setup

3.1 Powering the UNO Synth

The UNO Synth can be powered in two ways:

  • Battery Power: Insert 4 AA batteries into the battery compartment on the underside of the unit.
  • USB Power: Connect the supplied MicroUSB cable to the USB port on the rear of the UNO Synth and to a USB power source (e.g., computer, USB wall adapter).

Note: For optimal audio performance, especially when recording, using battery power or a high-quality, grounded USB power adapter is recommended to minimize potential noise.

3.2 Audio Connections

Connect the UNO Synth's audio output to your mixer, audio interface, or headphones using a 1/8" (3.5mm) audio cable. A TS (Tip-Sleeve) cable is typically used for monophonic audio output.

3.3 MIDI and USB Connectivity

The UNO Synth supports MIDI input and output for integration with other MIDI devices or a computer. Use the included MIDI cables to connect to external MIDI gear. The MicroUSB cable facilitates MIDI over USB and connection to the editor software.

4. Operating the UNO Synth

4.1 Overview of Controls

The UNO Synth features a tactile interface with dedicated knobs and buttons for sound shaping and performance. The main panel includes sections for Synthesis (OSC, FILTER, ENV, LFO), Performance (ARP, SEQ, PRESET), and various modulation and effect controls.

The central LED display shows parameter values.

4.2 Sound Generation (SYNTH Section)

  • OSC (Oscillators): Control the two analog oscillators to generate the core sound. Adjust waveform, level, and tuning.
  • FILTER: Shape the timbre using the multimode filter. Adjust Cutoff, Resonance (RES), Drive, and Envelope Amount (ENV AMT).
  • ENV (Envelope): Control the amplitude and filter envelopes with Attack, Decay, Sustain, and Release parameters.
  • LFO (Low-Frequency Oscillator): Apply modulation to various parameters like Wave, Rate, Pitch, and Filter.

4.3 Presets

The UNO Synth comes with 100 factory presets. Use the PRESET button and the DATA UP/DOWN buttons to navigate and select different sounds. To save a modified preset, press and hold the PRESET button, then use the DATA UP/DOWN buttons to select a save location, and press PRESET again to confirm.

4.4 Arpeggiator and Sequencer

The UNO Synth features a built-in arpeggiator (ARP) and step sequencer (SEQ). These tools allow for dynamic melodic and rhythmic patterns.

  • Arpeggiator: Press the ARP button to activate. Use the DIR (direction), RANGE, and SCALE buttons to modify arpeggiator behavior.
  • Sequencer: Press the SEQ button to activate. Record notes and parameter changes into sequences. Refer to the full manual for detailed sequencing instructions.

5. Maintenance

5.1 Cleaning

To clean the UNO Synth, use a soft, dry cloth. Do not use abrasive cleaners, solvents, or waxes, as these can damage the finish and electronic components. Avoid spraying liquids directly onto the unit.

5.2 Storage

Store the UNO Synth in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures. If storing for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage.

6. Troubleshooting

6.1 Audio Noise with USB Power

Some users may experience unwanted noise when powering the UNO Synth via USB, especially when connected to a computer or certain power adapters. This can be due to ground loops or electrical interference.

  • Solution 1: Use battery power. This isolates the unit from external electrical interference.
  • Solution 2: Try a different USB power source. A high-quality, grounded USB wall adapter may reduce noise compared to a computer's USB port.
  • Solution 3: If connecting to an audio interface, ensure proper grounding for all equipment.

6.2 Editor Software Connection Issues

If the UNO Synth editor software does not recognize the device, ensure the correct USB port is selected within the software's settings. Sometimes, restarting both the UNO Synth and the software can resolve connection problems.

6.3 No Sound Output

  • Check that the volume knob on the UNO Synth is turned up.
  • Verify that the audio cables are correctly connected to the output jack and to your listening device (headphones, speakers, mixer).
  • Ensure your listening device is powered on and its volume is adjusted.
  • Check if a preset is selected and playing.
