1. Introduction
This manual provides detailed instructions for the safe and effective operation of the BSIDE ACM81 Digital Clamp Multimeter. The ACM81 is a True RMS auto-ranging clamp meter designed for measuring AC current, AC/DC voltage, resistance, continuity, diode, and temperature. It features a non-contact AC voltage detection (V-alert) function, auto-ranging, auto power-off, data hold, and a backlit LCD for clear readings.
2. Safety Information
To ensure safe operation and avoid damage to the meter, please read and follow all safety instructions carefully. Keep this manual for future reference.
- Always adhere to local and national safety codes.
- Do not use the meter if it appears damaged or if the test leads are damaged.
- Ensure the meter is set to the correct function and range before making measurements.
- Do not exceed the maximum input values specified for each measurement range.
- Exercise extreme caution when working with voltages above 30V AC RMS, 42V peak, or 60V DC. These voltages pose a shock hazard.
- The meter conforms to IEC-61010-1, IEC-61010-2-030, IEC-61010-2-032, IEC-61010-2-033 standards.
- Over-voltage protection class: CAT III 300V, CAT II 600V, pollution degree II.
- The V-alert function (non-contact AC voltage detection) is designed to prevent potential hazards by indicating the presence of AC voltage without direct contact.

4.2 Connecting Test Leads
For voltage, resistance, continuity, diode, and temperature measurements, connect the test leads:
- Insert the black test lead into the "COM" (common) input jack.
- Insert the red test lead into the "INPUT" jack.
- Ensure connections are secure to prevent intermittent readings.
5. Operating Instructions
Turn the Function Switch to the desired measurement mode. The meter features auto-ranging, but manual ranging can be selected using the RAN button.
5.1 AC Current Measurement (Clamp)
This meter can measure AC current with a minimum sensitivity of 1mA using the clamp jaw.
- Turn the Function Switch to the A~ position.
- Press the trigger to open the clamp jaw.
- Enclose a single conductor (not a power cord with multiple wires) within the clamp jaw.
- Release the trigger to close the jaw around the conductor.
- Read the AC current value on the LCD display.

Figure 5.1: Measuring AC current with 1mA resolution. The clamp jaw must enclose only one conductor.

Figure 5.2: Easy clamp control by pulling the trigger for quick measurement.
5.2 AC/DC Voltage Measurement
Use the test leads for voltage measurements.
- Connect the test leads as described in Section 4.2.
- Turn the Function Switch to the V=~ position. The meter will automatically detect AC or DC voltage.
- Touch the red test probe to the positive side of the circuit and the black test probe to the negative side (or ground).
- Read the voltage value on the LCD display.

Figure 5.3: Examples of battery and AC voltage measurement using the test leads.
5.3 Non-Contact AC Voltage Detection (V-Alert)
The V-alert function provides a safe way to detect the presence of AC voltage without direct contact.
- Turn the Function Switch to the V-Alert position.
- Move the V-Alert sensor (top of the clamp jaw) close to the conductor or electrical outlet.
- If AC voltage is detected, the meter will emit an audible beep and the V-Alert indicator on the display will illuminate.

Figure 5.4: V-Alert function in use, detecting non-contact AC voltage.
5.4 Resistance, Continuity, Diode, and Temperature Measurement
These functions are grouped under one rotary switch position and selected using the SEL button.
- Connect the test leads as described in Section 4.2.
- Turn the Function Switch to the Ω/~ position.
- Press the SEL button to cycle through Resistance (Ω), Continuity (buzzer icon), Diode (diode symbol), and Temperature (°C/°F).
- Resistance: Touch the probes across the component to measure resistance.
- Continuity: If the resistance is less than 30Ω, the continuity beeper sounds.
- Diode: Shows the positive voltage value of the diode approximately.
- Temperature: Connect the thermocouple to the input jacks. The display will show the temperature reading.
5.5 Data Hold Function
The Data Hold function allows you to freeze the current reading on the display for easier recording.
- While taking a measurement, press the HOLD button. The reading will freeze on the display.
- Press the HOLD button again to release the reading and return to live measurement.

Figure 5.5: Using the Data Hold button to freeze a measurement on the display.
5.6 Backlight
Press the * button to turn the LCD backlight on or off for improved visibility in low-light conditions.
5.7 Auto Power Off
The meter features an auto power-off function to conserve battery life. It will automatically turn off after a period of inactivity. Press any button or turn the Function Switch to reactivate it.
6. Maintenance
6.1 Cleaning
Wipe the meter with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not use abrasives or solvents. Ensure the meter is completely dry before use.
6.2 Battery Replacement
When the low battery indicator appears on the display, replace the batteries as described in Section 4.1. Always use two new 1.5V AAA batteries.
6.3 Storage
If the meter is not used for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage. Store the meter in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
7. Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your BSIDE ACM81, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
- Meter does not power on:
- Check if batteries are installed correctly with proper polarity.
- Replace batteries if they are depleted.
- Inaccurate or intermittent readings:
- Ensure test leads are securely connected to the meter and the circuit under test.
- Verify the Function Switch is set to the correct measurement mode.
- For clamp measurements, ensure only a single conductor is within the jaw.
- Check for damaged test leads or probes.
- Display shows "OL" (Overload):
- The measured value exceeds the selected range. If in auto-ranging, this indicates the value is beyond the meter's maximum capacity for that function.
- No V-Alert indication:
- Ensure the meter is in V-Alert mode.
- Confirm the presence of AC voltage in the area being tested.
