4. Product Overview

The Digitus Cat-6A 24-Port Shielded Patch Panel features 24 RJ45 ports on the front for connecting network devices via patch cables, and LSA (LSA-Plus) termination blocks on the rear for permanent cable installation. The panel is designed for 1U rack mounting and provides robust shielding for enhanced signal integrity.

5. Installation

5.1. Rack Mounting

  1. Identify an available 1U (1.75 inches) space in your standard 19-inch network or server cabinet.
  2. Align the mounting ears of the patch panel with the rack rails.
  3. Secure the patch panel to the rack using the provided mounting screws. Ensure it is firmly attached.

5.2. Cable Termination (LSA Strips)

The patch panel uses LSA (LSA-Plus) termination blocks, color-coded according to EIA/TIA 568 A and B standards. Ensure you consistently use either standard A or standard B for all connections within your network.

  1. Prepare your Cat-6A network cables by stripping approximately 1-2 inches of the outer jacket, exposing the twisted pairs. Be careful not to damage the wire insulation.
  2. Untwist the pairs minimally, just enough to separate the individual wires.
  3. Refer to the color coding diagram on the LSA block (EIA/TIA 568 A or B).
  4. Place each individual wire into its corresponding slot on the LSA block.
  5. Use an LSA punch-down tool to firmly press each wire into its slot. The tool will simultaneously cut off any excess wire.
  6. Repeat this process for all 24 ports.
  7. After termination, use the provided cable ties to secure the installed cables to the cable management bar at the rear of the patch panel, reducing strain on the LSA connections.
  8. Ensure proper grounding of the patch panel to the rack for optimal shielding.

6. Operating Instructions

Once the network cables are terminated on the rear LSA blocks, the patch panel is ready for operation.

  1. Connect standard RJ45 patch cables from your network devices (e.g., computers, servers, switches) to the front RJ45 ports of the patch panel.
  2. Ensure the patch cables are fully inserted and click into place.
  3. The patch panel facilitates organized connections between your network infrastructure and end devices.

7. Maintenance

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your network connections through the patch panel, consider the following:

ProblemPossible CauseSolution
No network connectionLoose patch cable connection
Incorrect LSA termination
Faulty patch cable
Ensure patch cables are fully seated
Verify LSA terminations using a cable tester and re-terminate if necessary
Test with a known good patch cable
Slow network speedPoor quality patch cable
Improper Cat-6A termination
Interference (lack of proper shielding)
Use certified Cat-6A patch cables
Ensure LSA terminations follow EIA/TIA 568 A/B standards precisely
Verify patch panel and cables are properly shielded and grounded
Intermittent connectionDamaged cable
Loose LSA termination
Connector issue
Inspect and replace damaged cables
Re-punch loose LSA connections
Check RJ45 ports for damage
