1. Introduction

This manual provides instructions for the safe and efficient operation of your Marantz NR1609 AV Receiver. 2. Safety Instructions

Important Safety Information:

4. Setup

4.1 Physical Connections

Before making any connections, ensure the receiver is unplugged from the power outlet.

4.1.1 Speaker Connections

Connect your speakers to the corresponding terminals on the rear panel. The NR1609 supports a 7.2 channel configuration. Ensure correct polarity (+ to + and - to -) for all speakers.

For a 5.1.2 Dolby Atmos setup, connect front, center, surround, and two height/Dolby Atmos enabled speakers. For a 7.2 setup, connect front, center, surround, and surround back speakers.

Connect subwoofers to the SUBWOOFER PRE OUT terminals.

4.1.2 HDMI Connections

The NR1609 features 8 HDMI inputs and 1 HDMI output with full HDCP 2.2 support. Connect your source devices (e.g., Blu-ray player, game console, cable box) to the HDMI IN ports. Connect your TV or projector to the HDMI OUT (MONITOR ARC) port.

The HDMI output supports Audio Return Channel (ARC), allowing audio from your TV to be sent back to the receiver via the HDMI cable.

4.1.3 Network and Antenna Connections

  • Network: Connect an Ethernet cable from your router to the NETWORK port for a wired internet connection.
  • Wi-Fi/Bluetooth Antennas: Screw the two external antennas onto the ANTENNA terminals on the rear panel. Adjust them upwards for optimal reception.
  • AM/FM Antennas: Connect the supplied AM loop and FM indoor antennas for radio reception.

4.2 Initial Setup Assistant

After connecting all devices and powering on the receiver and your TV, the Setup Assistant will guide you through the initial configuration process. This includes:

4.3 Audyssey Room Correction

The Marantz NR1609 includes Audyssey MultEQ XT32 room acoustic correction software. This system analyzes each speaker in your home theater and adjusts volume levels, frequency response, and time response based on speaker-to-listener distance. Use the supplied calibration microphone and stand to perform this setup for optimal sound quality.

  1. Connect the Audyssey microphone to the SETUP MIC port on the front panel.
  2. Place the microphone at your primary listening position using the microphone stand.
  3. Follow the on-screen instructions to begin the calibration process. The system will emit test tones from each speaker.
  4. Repeat the process for up to 8 listening positions for the most accurate calibration.

  • Power On/Off: Press the POWER button on the front panel or the remote control.
  • Input Selection: Use the INPUT SELECTOR knob on the front panel or the dedicated input buttons on the remote control (e.g., CBL/SAT, DVD, Blu-ray) to choose your desired source.
  • Volume Control: Adjust the VOLUME knob on the front panel or the VOLUME +/- buttons on the remote control.

5.6 Multi-Room Audio (Zone 2)

The NR1609 supports multi-room audio with Zone 2. You can enjoy 5.2 channel surround sound in your main home theater and simultaneously play stereo sound from a different source in a separate room. Connect speakers to the Zone 2 amplified outputs or use Zone 2 pre-outs with an additional stereo amplifier.
