Setup
Charging the Device
The Dogtra ARC system includes a battery charger and splitter cable. To charge the collar receiver and transmitter, locate the charging port on each device. For the collar, gently pop open the protective cover over the charging port. Connect the splitter cable to both the collar and the transmitter, then plug into the charger. A blinking light on the remote indicates charging. The unit is fully charged within 2 hours.
Fitting the Collar
The ergonomic slim collar is designed for medium to larger dogs (15+ lbs) with neck sizes 10"-22". Ensure the contact points on the receiver make proper contact with your dog's skin. The biothane strap can be cut to size for a custom fit. Proper fit is crucial for effective and humane operation.
Operating Instructions
Turning On/Off and Adjusting Levels
To turn on the remote transmitter, press the blue button on the side. The LCD screen will illuminate, displaying the current stimulation level and battery status. Adjust the stimulation level by turning the dial at the top of the remote. Levels range from 0 to 127. It is recommended to start at the lowest effective level for your dog.
Training Modes
The ARC system offers multiple training modes:
- Nick Stimulation: Provides a momentary, quick burst of stimulation.
- Constant Stimulation: Delivers continuous stimulation for up to 12 seconds (or until the button is released).
- High-Performance Pager Vibration: A non-stimulating vibration mode, often used as a warning or for sensitive dogs.
The remote has dedicated buttons for each collar (if using a 2-dog system), typically color-coded (e.g., orange for orange collar, black for black collar). Press the corresponding button to activate the desired mode for the specific dog.
Maintenance
Regular charging is essential to maintain optimal performance. Ensure the charging ports are clean and dry before charging. Periodically inspect the collar strap and contact points for wear and tear. Clean the collar and receiver with a damp cloth as needed. The IPX9K waterproof rating ensures durability in various conditions, but proper drying after exposure to water is recommended.
Troubleshooting
If the device is not functioning as expected, consider the following:
- No Response from Collar:
- Check if both the transmitter and receiver are turned on.
- Ensure both devices are fully charged.
- Verify the collar is properly fitted and the contact points are touching the dog's skin.
- Test the collar using the provided test light to confirm stimulation is being emitted.
- Short Battery Life:
- Ensure the device is being charged for the recommended 2 hours.
- Check the charging cable and adapter for damage.
- Battery life can decrease over time; consider contacting support for battery replacement options if the device is old.
- Dog Not Responding to Stimulation:
- Increase the stimulation level gradually.
- Ensure proper collar fit and contact.
- Consult a professional dog trainer for guidance on e-collar training techniques.
