5. Setup Instructions

Follow these steps to connect your hard drive using the Poppstar adapter:

  1. Connect the SATA Drive:

Align the SATA connector of the adapter with the SATA data and power ports on your 2.5-inch or 3.5-inch SSD/HDD. Gently push the drive onto the adapter until it is firmly seated.

  2. Connect the Power Supply (for 3.5-inch HDDs):

If you are using a 3.5-inch hard drive, connect the included 12V 2A power supply to the adapter's power input port. Then, plug the power supply into a wall outlet. 2.5-inch SSDs/HDDs typically draw sufficient power from the USB port and do not require the external power supply.

  4. Verify Connection:

The LED indicator on the adapter will illuminate, indicating power. It will blink during data transfer. Your operating system should automatically detect the connected drive. If it's a new drive, you may need to initialize and format it through Disk Management (Windows) or Disk Utility (Mac) before use.

6. Operating Instructions

The Poppstar USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type C SATA Hard Drive Adapter is designed for ease of use with its plug-and-play functionality.

  • Hot Swappable: The adapter supports hot-swapping, meaning you can connect and disconnect drives without needing to restart your computer, provided the drive is not actively in use.
  • Data Transfer: Once connected and recognized by your operating system, you can access the drive like any other internal or external storage device. Drag and drop files, copy, paste, or use backup software.
  • UASP Performance: For optimal performance, ensure your operating system and USB 3.1 Type C port support UASP (USB Attached SCSI Protocol). This can significantly increase read and write speeds compared to traditional BOT (Bulk-Only Transport) protocols.
  • Safe Removal: Always safely eject the drive from your operating system before physically disconnecting the adapter or the drive to prevent data corruption.

7. Maintenance

To ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your Poppstar Hard Drive Adapter, follow these simple maintenance guidelines:

  • Cleaning: Use a soft, dry cloth to clean the adapter. Avoid liquid cleaners or solvents.
  • Storage: Store the adapter in a cool, dry place away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures when not in use.
  • Handling: Handle the adapter and connected drives with care to avoid physical damage to connectors or internal components.
  • Power Supply: Only use the provided power supply with the adapter. Using an incompatible power supply may damage the device or the connected hard drive.

8. Troubleshooting

If you encounter issues with your Poppstar Hard Drive Adapter, refer to the following common problems and solutions:

ProblemPossible Cause / Solution
Drive not detected by computer.
  • Ensure all cables are securely connected.
  • For 3.5-inch HDDs, confirm the external power supply is connected and powered on.
  • Try a different USB Type C port on your computer.
  • Check Disk Management (Windows) or Disk Utility (Mac) to see if the drive is recognized but uninitialized/unformatted.
  • Test the adapter with a different known-good hard drive.
Slow data transfer speeds.
  • Ensure you are connected to a USB 3.1 Gen 2 Type C port. Connecting to a USB 2.0 or 3.0 port will result in lower speeds.
  • Verify your operating system supports UASP.
  • The speed of the hard drive itself can be a limiting factor.
  • Avoid transferring many small files simultaneously, as this can reduce overall speed.
LED indicator not lighting up.
  • Check the USB connection to your computer.
  • If using a 3.5-inch HDD, ensure the external power supply is correctly connected and plugged into a live outlet.
Drive disconnects randomly.
  • Ensure the power supply is stable (especially for 3.5-inch drives).
  • Check for loose connections at both the drive and computer ends.
  • Avoid placing the adapter near strong electromagnetic interference.
  • Ensure your computer's USB port is providing sufficient power.
