Setup

Battery Installation

The Digitech QM1563 requires 2 AAA batteries (included). To install or replace batteries:

  1. Ensure the clampmeter is turned OFF.
  2. Locate the battery compartment cover on the rear of the unit.
  3. Use a screwdriver to loosen the screw(s) securing the cover.
  4. Remove the cover and insert the 2 AAA batteries, observing the correct polarity (+/-) as indicated inside the compartment.
  5. Replace the battery compartment cover and tighten the screw(s).

Initial Power On

After battery installation, turn the rotary function switch from OFF to any measurement function. The display should illuminate, indicating the meter is ready for use.

Operating Instructions

General Operation

  • Power On/Off: Rotate the function switch from OFF to the desired measurement function to turn on. Rotate back to OFF to turn off.
  • Auto Power-Off: The meter will automatically power off after approximately 15 minutes of inactivity. Press any button or rotate the function switch to reactivate.
  • Data Hold: Press the HOLD button to freeze the current reading on the display. Press again to release.
  • Relative Mode (REL): Press the REL button to store the current reading as a reference. Subsequent readings will show the difference from this reference. Press again to exit relative mode.
  • Function Selection (MODE/Hz%): For functions with multiple sub-modes (e.g., AC/DC current, voltage, or frequency/duty cycle), press the MODE or Hz% button to cycle through them.

Current Measurement (AC/DC)

Use the clamp jaws for non-contact current measurement.

  1. Rotate the function switch to the 40A AC/DC or 400A AC/DC position.
  2. Press the MODE button to select between AC (~) or DC (---) current.
  3. Open the clamp jaws by pressing the trigger.
  4. Enclose only one conductor within the jaws. Ensure the jaws are fully closed.
  5. Read the current value on the display.

Voltage Measurement (AC/DC)

Connect test leads to the input jacks.

  1. Insert the black test lead into the COM jack and the red test lead into the V/Temp Ω/CAP jack.
  2. Rotate the function switch to the V∼Hz (AC Voltage) or V--- (DC Voltage) position.
  3. Connect the test probes across the circuit or component to be measured.
  4. Read the voltage value on the display.

Resistance Measurement (Ω)

Ensure the circuit is de-energized before measuring resistance.

  1. Connect test leads as for voltage measurement.
  2. Rotate the function switch to the Ω position.
  3. Connect the test probes across the component.
  4. Read the resistance value on the display.

Capacitance Measurement (CAP)

Ensure capacitors are discharged before testing.

  1. Connect test leads as for voltage measurement.
  2. Rotate the function switch to the CAP position.
  3. Connect the test probes across the capacitor terminals.
  4. Read the capacitance value on the display.

Frequency Measurement (Hz)

  1. Connect test leads as for voltage measurement.
  2. Rotate the function switch to the V∼Hz position.
  3. Press the Hz% button to select frequency measurement.
  4. Connect the test probes across the circuit where frequency is to be measured.
  5. Read the frequency value on the display.

Temperature Measurement (°C/°F)

Use the included temperature probe.

  1. Rotate the function switch to the °C/°F position.
  2. Insert the temperature probe into the input jacks, observing polarity.
  3. Place the probe tip on or near the object whose temperature is to be measured.
  4. Read the temperature value on the display. Press MODE to switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit.

Diode Test and Continuity

  1. Connect test leads as for voltage measurement.
  2. Rotate the function switch to the Ω position.
  3. Press the MODE button to cycle to Diode Test (→| symbol) or Continuity (♫ symbol).
  4. For Diode Test: Connect probes across the diode. A good diode will show a voltage drop in one direction and open in the other.
  5. For Continuity: Connect probes across the circuit. An audible beep indicates continuity (low resistance).

Maintenance

Cleaning

Wipe the meter with a damp cloth and mild detergent. Do not use abrasives or solvents. Ensure the meter is dry before storage or use.

Battery Replacement

Refer to the "Battery Installation" section under Setup. Replace batteries when the low battery indicator appears on the display.

Storage

If the meter is not to be used for an extended period, remove the batteries to prevent leakage. Store the meter in a cool, dry place, away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.
