1. Introduction

The BAOFENG UV-5R+ Plus is a dual-band two-way radio designed for reliable communication across various environments. 4. Setup

4.1 Battery Installation and Charging

To install the battery, align the battery pack with the grooves on the back of the radio and slide it upwards until it clicks into place. To remove, press the release latch at the bottom of the battery and slide it downwards.

Before first use, fully charge the battery. Place the radio (with battery installed) into the desktop charger. The charger indicator light will show charging status. Ensure the battery is securely seated in the charger.

4.2 Antenna Attachment

Screw the antenna clockwise into the connector on the top of the radio until it is finger-tight. Do not overtighten.

5. Operating Instructions

5.1 Power On/Off and Volume Control

To power on the radio, rotate the volume knob (top-left) clockwise. To power off, rotate it counter-clockwise until it clicks. Adjust the volume by rotating the same knob.

5.2 Frequency and Channel Mode (VFO/MR)

The radio operates in two main modes: Frequency Mode (VFO) and Channel Mode (MR). Press the VFO/MR button to switch between these modes. In VFO mode, you can manually input frequencies. In MR mode, you can select pre-programmed channels.

5.3 Programming Channels

Programming channels on the UV-5R+ Plus can be done directly from the keypad or via software like CHIRP. The following video demonstrates how to program repeater offsets and simplex frequencies directly on the radio.

5.4 Push-to-Talk (PTT) Button

The large button on the left side of the radio is the Push-to-Talk (PTT) button. Press and hold this button to transmit, and release it to receive.

5.5 VOX Function (Voice Operated Transmission)

The VOX function allows for hands-free transmission. When activated, the radio will transmit automatically when it detects your voice. Refer to the user manual for detailed steps on enabling and adjusting VOX sensitivity.

5.6 1750Hz Burst Tone

This tone is used to access certain repeaters. Press the BAND button while transmitting to send the 1750Hz burst tone.

5.7 Monitor Channel

Press the MONI button (SK-side key2) to temporarily disable the squelch and listen to weak signals or monitor the channel for activity.

5.8 Keypad Lock

To prevent accidental changes to settings, you can lock the keypad. Press and hold the # key to toggle the keypad lock on or off.

5.9 Emergency Alert and LED Flashlight

The radio includes an emergency alert function and a built-in LED flashlight for convenience in low-light conditions. Consult the full user manual for specific activation procedures for these features.

6. Maintenance

• Cleaning: Wipe the radio's surface with a soft, damp cloth. Avoid using harsh chemicals or abrasive cleaners.
• Battery Care: Always use the original BAOFENG charger. Do not overcharge or deep discharge the battery. Store the battery in a cool, dry place when not in use for extended periods.
• Antenna: Ensure the antenna is securely attached but do not overtighten. Avoid bending or stressing the antenna.
• Storage: Store the radio in a dry, dust-free environment away from direct sunlight and extreme temperatures.

If you encounter issues with your radio, try the following basic troubleshooting steps:

• No Power: Check if the battery is properly installed and charged. Ensure the volume knob is turned on.
• Cannot Transmit/Receive: Verify that you are on the correct frequency/channel. Check antenna connection. Ensure the PTT button is fully pressed.
• Poor Audio Quality: Adjust the volume. Check the earpiece connection if in use. Ensure the antenna is properly attached.
• Keypad Unresponsive: Check if the keypad lock is activated. Press and hold the # key to unlock.
