3. Safety Information
Always prioritize safety when working with fuel systems. Failure to follow these instructions may result in fire, explosion, or serious injury.
- Ensure the vehicle's battery is disconnected before beginning installation.
- Work in a well-ventilated area, away from open flames, sparks, or other ignition sources.
- Wear appropriate personal protective equipment, including safety glasses and gloves.
- Handle fuel with extreme care. Clean up any spills immediately.
- Verify all connections are secure and leak-free after installation.
- If you are unsure about any part of the installation process, consult a qualified mechanic.

5. Installation (Setup)
Follow these steps for proper installation of the fuel pump. Refer to your vehicle's service manual for specific fuel system diagrams.
- Disconnect Battery: Disconnect the negative terminal of the vehicle's battery to prevent accidental electrical shorts.
- Locate Mounting Position: Choose a suitable location for the fuel pump, ideally close to the fuel tank and lower than the tank for optimal fuel suction. The pump features a two-wire design for flexible mounting.
- Mount the Pump: Use the provided mounting bracket and hardware to securely attach the fuel pump to a stable surface. Ensure the pump is oriented correctly with the inlet and outlet ports facing the appropriate directions (refer to the arrow on the pump body for flow direction).
- Install Pre-filter: Thread the pre-filter onto the inlet side of the fuel pump. This helps eliminate over 80% of malfunctions caused by particles.
- Connect Fuel Lines:
- Attach the fuel supply line from the tank to the inlet side of the pump (with the pre-filter).
- Attach the fuel line leading to the engine/carburetor to the outlet side of the pump.
- Secure all fuel line connections with the provided hose clamps to prevent leaks.
- Wire the Pump:
- Connect the red wire from the pump to a switched 12V power source (e.g., ignition switch, fuel pump relay). It is recommended to use an inline fuse for protection.
- Connect the black wire from the pump to a good chassis ground.
- Ensure all electrical connections are clean, tight, and properly insulated.
- Reconnect Battery: Reconnect the negative terminal of the vehicle's battery.
- Check for Leaks: Turn the ignition to the "ON" position (without starting the engine) to allow the pump to prime the fuel system. Carefully inspect all fuel line connections for any signs of leaks.
- Start Engine: Once satisfied that there are no leaks, start the engine and re-check for proper operation and any unusual noises.

6. Operation
The Megaflint 12V Universal Electric Fuel Pump operates by drawing fuel from the tank and delivering it under pressure to the engine's fuel system. Once properly installed and wired, the pump will activate when the ignition is turned on, priming the system, and continue to operate as long as the engine is running (or as controlled by the vehicle's fuel pump relay).
The pump is designed to maintain a consistent fuel pressure of 5-9 PSI, suitable for carbureted engines and various other applications requiring low-pressure fuel delivery.
7. Maintenance
Regular maintenance helps ensure the longevity and optimal performance of your fuel pump.
- Inspect Fuel Lines: Periodically check fuel lines and connections for cracks, wear, or leaks. Replace any damaged components immediately.
- Check Electrical Connections: Ensure electrical wiring remains secure and free from corrosion.
- Pre-filter Inspection/Replacement: The included pre-filter helps protect the pump from contaminants. Inspect the filter periodically and replace it if it appears clogged or dirty to maintain optimal fuel flow and pump life.
- Listen for Abnormal Noises: A properly functioning fuel pump should operate quietly. Any unusual noises (e.g., whining, grinding) may indicate an issue and should be investigated.

8. Troubleshooting
If you experience issues with your fuel pump, refer to the following common problems and solutions:
| Problem | Possible Cause | Solution |
|---|---|---|
| Pump does not run / No fuel flow | No power to pump, faulty wiring, blown fuse, clogged fuel filter, empty fuel tank. | Check electrical connections and fuse. Ensure fuel tank has sufficient fuel. Inspect and replace fuel filter if necessary. |
| Low fuel pressure | Clogged fuel filter, kinked fuel line, air leak in suction line, worn pump. | Replace fuel filter. Inspect fuel lines for obstructions. Check for loose connections allowing air in. |
| Fuel leaks | Loose hose clamps, damaged fuel lines, faulty fittings. | Tighten hose clamps. Replace damaged fuel lines or fittings. |
| Excessive noise from pump | Air in fuel system, pump cavitation (lack of fuel), improper mounting, internal pump issue. | Ensure fuel tank is not low. Check for air leaks in suction line. Verify pump is securely mounted. If noise persists, pump may need replacement. |
