Setup Instructions

  1. Connect Microphones: Attach the foam wind muff to each lavalier microphone. Use the rotatable clip to secure the microphone to your clothing, approximately 6-8 inches from your mouth for optimal sound capture.
  2. Dual Microphone Setup: If using both microphones for an interview, connect both lavalier microphones to the Y-connector.
  3. Extend Cable Length (Optional): For increased mobility or distance from the recording device, connect the extension cords to the microphone cables.
  4. Connect to Device:
    • Smartphones (with 3.5mm jack): Plug the microphone's 3.5mm TRRS jack directly into your smartphone's audio port.
    • DSLR Cameras, PCs, Audio Recorders: Use the included TRS adapter. Plug the microphone's TRRS jack into the adapter, then plug the adapter into your device's 3.5mm microphone input.
    • iPhones (7 and up) / Android (USB-C without 3.5mm): A separate Lightning to 3.5mm adapter (for iPhones) or USB-C to 3.5mm adapter (for Android) is required and not included.
  5. Test Recording: Always perform a short test recording to ensure proper connection and audio levels before your main recording session.

Operating Instructions

The PowerDeWise lavalier microphones are designed for simple plug-and-play operation. No batteries are required for the microphones themselves.

  • Once connected, your device should automatically recognize the external microphone.
  • Open your preferred recording application (e.g., camera app, voice recorder, video recording software).
  • Begin your recording. Ensure the microphone is securely clipped and positioned correctly for clear audio capture.
  • After recording, stop the recording in your application.
  • To listen to your recording, unplug the microphone(s) from your device. This allows the audio to play through your device's internal speakers or connected headphones.

  • Smartphones: Works with iPhone* (*iPhone 7 and up require Lightning to 3.5mm adapter - sold separately), Samsung, LG, and other Android smartphones with a 3.5mm jack.
  • Cameras: Compatible with DSLR cameras.
  • Recorders: Works with DJI Osmo, Insta360, Zoom & Tascam recorders (exceptions may apply).
  • Computers: Compatible with laptops and PCs with a 3.5mm jack.

Not Compatible With: Camcorders, GoPro Session, Nexus phones, Galaxy J Series, Tascam DR-40, and other select devices.

Maintenance

  • Cleaning: Gently wipe the microphone and cables with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid cleaners or immerse in water.
  • Wind Muffs: The foam wind muffs can be carefully removed and cleaned if necessary. Ensure they are completely dry before reattaching. Replace if damaged or worn.
  • Storage: Store the microphones and accessories in the provided pouch when not in use to protect them from dust and damage. Avoid tangling cables.
  • Cable Care: Do not sharply bend or pull on the cables to prevent internal wire damage.

Troubleshooting

  • No Audio Recording:
    • Ensure all connectors are fully plugged in until a click is heard.
    • Verify that the correct adapter (TRRS for smartphones, TRS for cameras/PCs) is being used.
    • Check your device's audio input settings to confirm the external microphone is selected.
    • For iPhones 7+ or USB-C Androids, confirm you are using the correct official adapter (not included).
  • Poor Audio Quality / Static:
    • Ensure the microphone is positioned correctly, not too close or too far from the sound source.
    • Check for loose connections.
    • Replace the foam wind muff if it is damaged or missing, especially in outdoor environments.
    • Avoid placing cables near strong electromagnetic interference sources (e.g., power cables, large electronic devices).
  • Cannot Hear Playback:
    • Unplug the microphone(s) from your device to enable audio playback through the device's speakers or headphones.
