Setup and Wearing Instructions
Proper fit is crucial for optimal sound quality and sound isolation. The Shure SE846 earphones are designed to be worn with the cable running up and over the ear for a secure fit.
1. Identify Left and Right Earphones
Locate the 'L' and 'R' markings or the red (right) and blue (left) dots on the inner side of each earphone body to ensure correct placement.
2. Select the Correct Sleeves (Ear Tips)
Experiment with the various sizes and types of sleeves provided in the fit kit to find the ones that create the best seal and are most comfortable for your ears. A good seal is essential for full-range sound and effective sound isolation.
3. Inserting the Earphones
- Form a Hook: Hold the earphone with the cable forming a hook shape.
- Compress Foam Sleeves (if applicable): If using foam sleeves, gently compress the foam with your fingers before insertion, similar to how you would compress a foam earplug.
- Position Over Ear: Place the hooked cable over your ear.
- Insert into Ear Canal: Gently push the sleeve into your ear canal. You can also insert the earphone at a slight forward angle and then rotate it about a quarter turn backward to help it seat properly.
- Adjust for Comfort: The earphone should rest securely and comfortably, almost flush with your outer ear. The Shure logo should be right side up when worn correctly.
The cable can hang down in front or behind your back. For an even more secure fit, especially during physical activity, adjust the cable cinch snugly against the back of your head.

4. Connecting Cables
The SE846 earphones feature a detachable cable system, allowing you to switch between wired and wireless options.
- Wired Connection: Attach either the Universal 3.5 mm Communication Cable or the Standard 3.5 mm Audio Cable to the earphones. Ensure the connectors click securely into place.
- Bluetooth Connection: Attach the Bluetooth 4.1 Communication Cable to the earphones.

5. Charging the Bluetooth Cable
To charge the Bluetooth communication cable, connect the micro-USB charging cable to the charging port on the Bluetooth module and plug the other end into a USB power source. The LED indicator will show charging status. A full charge provides up to 8 hours of battery life.
Operation
1. Bluetooth Pairing
- Ensure the Bluetooth cable is charged.
- Turn on the Bluetooth cable by pressing and holding the power button until the LED indicator flashes.
- On your device (phone, laptop, tablet), enable Bluetooth and search for available devices.
- Select "Shure SE846" or a similar name from the list of devices to pair.
- Once paired, the LED indicator on the Bluetooth cable will show a steady light.
- The Bluetooth 4.1 cable pairs with most devices and offers a range of up to 30 feet (10 meters).
2. Using the Communication Cables
Both the Bluetooth and Universal 3.5 mm communication cables feature inline remotes and microphones for convenient control.
- Volume Control: Use the '+' and '-' buttons on the inline remote to adjust playback volume.
- Music Playback: Control music playback (play, pause, skip tracks) using the central button.
- Phone Calls: Answer or end calls, and activate voice commands using the central button. The integrated microphone allows for clear communication.
- The Universal 3.5 mm communication cable is designed for seamless control with both Apple/iOS and Android devices.
Maintenance
Regular maintenance ensures the longevity and optimal performance of your earphones.
- Cleaning Sleeves: Remove the sleeves from the earphone nozzles. Clean foam sleeves by gently wiping them with a damp cloth. Silicone sleeves can be washed with mild soap and water. Ensure sleeves are completely dry before reattaching.
- Cleaning Nozzles: Use the provided cleaning tool to carefully remove any earwax or debris from the earphone nozzles. Avoid pushing debris further into the earphone.
- Cable Care: Store cables neatly to prevent tangling and damage. Avoid sharp bends or excessive pulling on the cables.
- Storage: When not in use, store your earphones and accessories in the premium carrying case to protect them from dust, moisture, and physical damage.
Troubleshooting
If you encounter issues with your Shure SE846 earphones, refer to the following common solutions:
- No Sound or Low Volume:
- Ensure the earphones are securely connected to the cable and the cable is fully plugged into your audio source.
- Check the volume levels on both your audio source and the earphone's inline remote.
- For Bluetooth, ensure the cable is charged and properly paired with your device.
- Inspect the earphone nozzles for any blockages (e.g., earwax) and clean if necessary.
- Poor Sound Quality or Lack of Bass:
- This is often due to an improper seal. Re-evaluate your sleeve choice and insertion technique to ensure a snug fit in your ear canal.
- Ensure the earphones are inserted correctly (left earphone in left ear, right in right).
- Bluetooth Connectivity Issues:
- Ensure the Bluetooth cable is charged.
- Try unpairing and re-pairing the earphones with your device.
- Move closer to your audio source to rule out range issues.
- Ensure no other Bluetooth devices are interfering.
- Intermittent Audio:
- Check for loose cable connections at both the earphone and the audio source.
- If using Bluetooth, ensure you are within range and there are no obstructions.
- Try a different cable if available to determine if the issue is with the cable itself.
