Setup

1. Initial Charging and Power On

  1. Connect the power supply to your Surface Pro and a power outlet.
  2. Allow the device to charge for at least 30 minutes before initial use.
  3. Press the power button located on the top edge of the device to turn it on.

2. Windows Setup

Follow the on-screen instructions to complete the Windows operating system setup. This includes selecting your language, region, connecting to a Wi-Fi network, and signing in with or creating a Microsoft account.

3. LTE Advanced Connectivity Setup

Your Surface Pro supports both physical SIM cards and embedded SIM (eSIM) for LTE connectivity.

  • Using a Physical SIM Card:
    1. Locate the SIM card slot on the side of your Surface Pro.
    2. Use the SIM ejector tool (not included, typically provided by your carrier) to open the SIM tray.
    3. Insert your nano-SIM card into the tray and reinsert the tray into the device.
    4. Follow any on-screen prompts to activate your cellular plan.
  • Using eSIM:
    1. Ensure you have an active eSIM plan from a compatible carrier.
    2. Navigate to Settings > Network & Internet > Cellular.
    3. Select "Manage eSIM profiles" and follow the instructions to download and activate your eSIM profile.

Operating Instructions

Basic Navigation

  • Touch: Use gestures on the PixelSense display for navigation, zooming, and interaction.
  • Surface Pen (Sold Separately): Write, draw, and annotate directly on the screen. The pen can also be used for navigation and selecting items.
  • Type Cover (Sold Separately): Attach the Type Cover to use your Surface Pro as a traditional laptop with a physical keyboard and trackpad.

Connecting to Wi-Fi

  1. Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Wi-Fi.
  2. Toggle Wi-Fi to "On".
  3. Select your desired network from the list and click "Connect".
  4. Enter the network password if prompted.

Using LTE Advanced

  1. Ensure your SIM card or eSIM is properly set up and activated.
  2. Go to Settings > Network & Internet > Cellular.
  3. Ensure "Cellular data" is toggled to "On".
  4. Your Surface Pro will automatically connect to the available LTE network.

Adjusting the Kickstand

The integrated kickstand allows for multiple viewing angles. Gently pull the kickstand from the back of the device to adjust it to your preferred position for typing, drawing, or viewing content.

Maintenance

Cleaning Your Device

  • Use a soft, lint-free cloth dampened with water or an approved screen cleaner to wipe the display.
  • For the body of the device, use a soft, dry cloth. Avoid harsh chemicals or abrasive materials.
  • Ensure all ports are free of dust and debris.

Battery Care

  • To prolong battery life, avoid extreme temperatures.
  • Periodically allow the battery to discharge below 20% before recharging.
  • Store the device with a partial charge (around 50%) if not used for extended periods.

Software Updates

Regularly check for and install Windows updates to ensure your device has the latest features, security patches, and performance improvements. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.

Troubleshooting

Common Issues and Solutions

  • Device Not Turning On:

    Ensure the device is charged. Connect the power supply and wait a few minutes before attempting to power on again. If unresponsive, perform a force restart by holding the power button for 10-15 seconds.

  • LTE Connectivity Issues:

    Check if your SIM card is properly inserted or if your eSIM profile is active. Verify your cellular plan with your carrier. Try toggling cellular data off and on in Settings. Ensure you are in an area with network coverage.

  • Wi-Fi Connection Problems:

    Restart your Surface Pro and your Wi-Fi router. Forget the network in Wi-Fi settings and reconnect. Ensure your Wi-Fi drivers are up to date via Device Manager.

  • Touchscreen or Pen Not Responding:

    Restart the device. Check for Windows updates. If using a Surface Pen, ensure its battery is charged or replaced.

  • Device Overheating:

    Ensure proper ventilation and avoid using the device on soft surfaces that block airflow. Close unnecessary applications. If overheating persists, contact support.
