Figure 1: Front view of the MOXA EDS-P506E-4PoE-2GTXSFP Managed Ethernet PoE Switch, showing the 4 PoE+ ports, 2 combo ports, and LED indicators.

4.1 Port Description

  • PoE+ Ports (1-4): 10/100BaseTX ports supporting IEEE 802.3at/af Power over Ethernet, delivering up to 30W per port, with a total power budget of 60W.
  • Combo Ports (5-6): Two flexible ports that can operate as either 10/100/1000BaseTX (RJ45) or 100/1000BaseSFP (fiber) ports. Only one interface (RJ45 or SFP) can be active at a time for each combo port.

4.2 LED Indicators

Refer to the device's front panel for LED indicators. These typically include:

  • PWR1/PWR2: Power input status.
  • FAULT: System fault indicator.
  • MSTR/CPLR: Redundancy status (if applicable).
  • PoE Status: Indicates PoE power delivery status for each PoE port.
  • Link/Act: Network link and activity status for each port.

5. Setup

5.1 Mounting the Switch

The EDS-P506E-4PoE-2GTXSFP supports PoE Mount. Typically, this involves DIN-rail mounting for industrial environments.

  1. Attach the DIN-rail mounting kit to the rear of the switch using the provided screws.
  2. Hook the top of the DIN-rail clip over the top edge of the DIN-rail.
  3. Push the switch firmly against the DIN-rail until it snaps into place.
  4. Ensure the switch is securely fastened to prevent accidental dislodgement.

5.2 Power Connection

The switch supports dual 12/24/48VDC power inputs for redundancy.

  1. Connect the positive (+) wire from your DC power supply to the V+ terminal on the terminal block.
  2. Connect the negative (-) wire from your DC power supply to the V- terminal on the terminal block.
  3. Connect the ground wire to the ground terminal.
  4. Repeat for the second power input if redundancy is desired.
  5. Ensure all connections are secure before applying power.

5.3 Network Connections

Connect network devices to the switch ports.

  • PoE+ Ports: Connect PoE-powered devices (PDs) such as IP cameras, wireless access points, or VoIP phones to ports 1-4 using standard Ethernet cables. These ports will automatically detect and provide power to compliant devices.
  • Combo Ports: For ports 5 and 6, choose either the RJ45 copper interface or the SFP fiber interface.
    • For copper, connect standard Ethernet cables to the RJ45 ports.
    • For fiber, insert compatible SFP transceivers into the SFP slots and connect fiber optic cables.

6. Operating the Switch

6.1 Initial Power-Up

Once power is connected, the switch will begin its boot-up sequence. Observe the PWR LEDs to ensure stable power. The Link/Act LEDs will illuminate when a network device is connected and active.

6.2 Managed Features

As a managed switch, the EDS-P506E-4PoE-2GTXSFP offers advanced configuration and monitoring capabilities. Access these features via a web-based interface, Telnet, or SNMP. Refer to the detailed software manual (available on the Moxa website) for specific instructions on:

  • IP address configuration
  • VLAN setup
  • QoS (Quality of Service) settings
  • Port mirroring
  • Redundancy protocols (e.g., Turbo Ring, RSTP)
  • PoE management and scheduling

7. Maintenance

7.1 Cleaning

Periodically clean the exterior of the switch with a soft, dry cloth. Do not use liquid or aerosol cleaners. Ensure the device is powered off before cleaning.
